I get this with source games after interacting with ingame menus. This is purely because i'm tricking the game to think it's running under windows, when it's not.

OMG I HAD THIS PROBLEM!!

HERE IS THE SOLUTION!

Get a new mousepad, it you have a optical/laser mouse and a mouse pad with ANYTHING besides just plain pad on it. (a picture or words or ANYTHING)It is because it reflects the light from the mouses sensor and fucks it up. Get a plain black mousepad like I have and it should work fine.

Basically get a mouse pad thats not anywhere near reflective and in now way reflects light. Plain black works best!

Yes your right, I have a cheap plasric rubbery mouse pad i got for free and my optical mouse sucks on it, I went out and bought a 5 dollar solid cloth pad and it works like a charm, no more ghosties moving my mouse without moving it lol.

For optical mice it's all about texture, not color. It needs a rough surface ie like you got, a cloth mousepad. I personally hate mousepads and haven't used one since 1995 or some such but to each his/her own.

Viva la Resistance!
I have a black/grey desk, that's slightly rough, and this laser mouse works wonderfully on it with no mousepad. I used to have a white plastic mousemat with a rough surface and a picture, but it didn't work too well, and now serves as an oversized coaster for cereal bowls.
