Just an FYI

Before Kerio became Kerio, it was "Tiny Personal Firewall", by TinySoft. Some guys took the TPF code and branched it to Kerio. TinySoft has now been purchased by CA, and you can still get TPF as the now re-labed "CA Personal Firewall 2007 http://home2.ca.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayProductDetailsP age&SiteID=caconsum&Locale=en_US&Env=BASE&productID=50709000

Sadly it is no longer free like TPF was. If you can find installers for the older TPF, you can still download updates for it.

Personally I used to use TPF and later Kerio. I actually use NO firewall now, but I am also behind a Cisco 26000 router, which only has certain ports forwarded to me, and I do regular virus scans with F-Prot (a nice free virus scanner that is updated daily).

Heh, someone else who uses tiny. It's a shame they went under. (Bought out, then the firewall was gutted :\)
I still use tiny firewall pro, too bad CA won't accept my license or even offer a discount.

I know, that annoying popup that tells me "X Spyware is trying to send info about you to Y server" is so annoying.

</sarcasm>

Both my windows PCs run firewalls, my Linux box doesn't, but it's behind NAT and I have unnecessary services disabled.

AVG isn't a firewall.

I've only twice used a virus scanner... Ironically both times got a virus. Norton kept notifying me "omg you have a virus!!!!11" every 10 seconds, but failed to remove it, Norton was much more of a pain in that situation than the actual virus was... Had to format in the end anyway. Norton doesn't even successfully uninstall (on uninstall: "norton is not currently installed", ok then I reinstall: "norton is already installed", and there was no way to kill it while running for some reason either...)
Mcafee didn't do much more, but at least it wasn't as annoying with the 10-second-delay notifications.

I haven't been running a virusscanner for ages now, and haven't had a problem ever since. I do spyware checks now and again with Hitman Pro and my router acts as a firewall for me, windows firewall disabled, if only it did not reenable itself for no reason at all... Haven't updated in ages because windows update killed my desktop once (needing windows reinstall to actually fix it) and because it effectively resets my computer as soon as I try to install any update with it.
I don't want that type of updates.

I think he meant he doesn't install "anti"-virus software, as they behave like viruses.
