I've been having this problem for some months now, and not only does it refuse to find master servers or auto-update, when I click the close button it decides to stay resident and not let me load game2.exe until I End-Task it.
It could probably be fixed by reinstalling and such, but I've decided it's a hell of a lot easier to just not bother with it at all. Sarcasm
