For those of you who use Windows Live! Messenger, I have created a simple little plugin that Auto-Reponds a message that you set.

Instructions:
1. Download the attached DCOMAutoReply.AddIn.dll and put it in the MSN Messenger directory. (C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\).

2. Enable AddIns for Live Messenger: Run 'regedit' and go to the key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\ and edit the key 'AddInFeatureEnabled' to a value of 1. If the key does not exist then create it. (Its a DWORD type).

3. Restart Live Messenger. Now go to Tools->Options->AddIns and click the button 'Add to Messenger' and browse for DCOMAutoReply.AddIn.dll that you placed in the MSN Messenger directory.

To actually turn the AddIn on, you must click the drop down arrow next to your name and click 'Turn on DCOMAutoResponder'. You can now use the settings button in the AddIn options tab to change the message displayed when you have the AddIn turned on.

7.5 always. :)

Very nice, Next time I format and resort to Live! I'll give it a try.

/me downloads and stores in D: drive.

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

It's great to see people making things for messengers, but Messenger Plus! Live has a lot more than just the auto-responder, and is easier to get to work (download, install, automatic setup).

whoa.

Yes, but I think messenger plus is horribly bloated and has a lot of crap in it ( like messenger itself tbh, but meh... ). I will certainly be trying this plugin out.

EDIT: Ok, problem: There is no tools->options->addins section in my messenger live options (and I did do the regedit change)...

Oh, yeah. You have to want more features than just the auto-responder for Msg Plus! Live to be worth installing.

Personal preference I guess, I have always preferred less in messenger than more (disabled those bloody nudges for example, they drove me nuts!)

I like the tabbed chats with Msg Plus! Live. I also like their chat history a lot better than WLM's default. Plus, when I actually set myself as away, I can change my personal message and name to reflect what I'm doing, and it'll change back when I return. I tend to forget to readjust my personal message when I return without it.

Or you could just use trillion and have everything you need in one nice, working easy to use package.

Make sure the registry key looks like the following:
index.php?t=getfile&id=3413&private=0

And don't forget to restart messenger afterwards.

The problem was actually that regedit didnt save my changes for some wierd reason. I created the key and set it to 1, but when I loaded regedit up again to double check a few mins after I posted that the new key had gone and about 20 new ones had appeared in its place... (I know it was the same location as regedit opens in the last location you were looking at)

Probably some funky vista crap going on there, anyway it works now Razz

Or you can use Pidgin (used to be called Gaim) which is even less cluttered and more simple than Trillian. Plus it's open-source. Oh, and uses tabs.

Nice work dave.

Now now.. Nothing better than having MSN 7.5 NL version that is greatly modified with no add's, unlimited nudges and Msn Plus. Wink

The nudges can be disabled in the regular WML options; I don't know what you need a plugin for.
