Yo, I was hosting my server on Windows..but I finally deleted that Windows crap off this comp. So I tried hosting with Kubuntu, it didn't go over well.

My question: What distro is the most appropriate?

I saw in the Download and Install topic that it is mostly Red Hat, older versions. Red Hat didn't appeal to me when i saw SuSe as an option.

Another question: If I got the newest version of SuSe, should LFDS run fine?

Thanks

I'm running Debian Sarge on my server, and I have to say
it's the best OS for hosting servers.
LFDS 7 and and LFDS 8 is running fine there Smile (I have a LFDS 8 running on it).

Debian ftw.

When people ask me "Plz" just because it's shorter than "Please" I feel perfectly justified to answer "No" because it's shorter then "Yes"

Hmm, I am having troubling getting LFDS work on Linux...I extract the tar.gz file...take notice there is no configure file..so I figured after extracting than I am done.

Well, so I try to run the main server file in console:

$ ./renegade_server_1037b_rh8-0

I get the error:

error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5 Can't Open, No such file

I did locate that i had libstdc++.so.6 , and I don't understand why that might not work.

Any ideas?

Somebody at WW apparently forgot to think that libstdc++ could be revised at any time...

Well I got it working, and I got to say it is a beauty. Big Grin

I got a newer version of the new version of Kubuntu that fixed some major bugs.

After installing Kubuntu, right away I went in terminal and installed libstdc++5.

Downloaded the server, and it started working great.

I may have some other questions soon because I am sure this is not the only obstacle in setting this up on Linux.

Thanks
