It started off as a serious policy but most Renegade players are young and broke. We had hoped to use the policy to help defray the costs of running the master servers. That amount of money was also a token sum to induce the player to not try and bypass RenGuard again and get the ban put back on.
However you want to put it, I spend rather a lot of money to keep RenGuard up and running (such as it is) and if money finds its way into the BHS PayPal account, I'm going to use it to help pay the server bills.
I'm the bawss.

ROFL the price depends on several factors, including bandwidth allowed, processor speed, RAM, hard drive size/type... and a lot more. There is no magic fixed price. None of MY servers cost $150. They are hosted in a high-uptime data center with redundant power and network which minimizes downtime to almost zero.
My total server bill every month is about $480, over half of which is BHS-related expense, and the rest is n00bstories or personal.
