Okay, I'm not going to use restraint on this one because I'm tired of saying "Google it".
Listen, before you come and post a fucking retarded question (let alone a thread for the retarded question), why don't you use Google? Better yet, Wikipedia probably works too. I mean, is it so hard to go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRC?
My suggestion to you is to never use IRC. Unless you find an IRC network run and filled with idiots (which is surprisingly easy), you'll never get anywhere without being insulted left and right. If you DO find a network full of idiots, you'll successfully be building onto the black hole of knowledge. That's not a good thing.
whoa.

Ohhh! and do not forget to add what some of you preach to me. "Why does it matter if you cannot spell?" after-all you fully understood, exactly what the guy is asking. So offer some help as opposed to slagging him off.
Everyone of you have been in the same boat during your first few weeks of on-line gaming.

Now, normally, i hate the way people will reply with flames for the OP, but this moron deserves it;
- He uses poor grammar and spelling
- Innappropriate (not to mention poorly spelt) swearing
This is a signature. Reading this is wasting your time.

Hmm this thread says a lot about the Renegade community these days.
"Thanks for your application to join our prestigious community! It's been rejected."
New users are needed, and every one of them should be welcomed. Everyone started out not knowing about stuff and how it works. It's how everything happens; perhaps lighten up a little. How old were you when you joined? How did you act when you first contacted someone? Perhaps not identically, but have a think. Renegade is a computer game which is, despite its bbfc rating, targeted at people who are just the ages you're talking about!
aric:
You can get mIRC from http://www.mirc.com and here is an article on how to get it working: http://www.renegadewiki.com/index.php?title=MIRC_Tutorial
Then choose a network to connect to, that's up to you.
irc.aohost.co.uk
irc.black-cell.net
irc.n00bstories.com
are a few examples of Renegade-related ones (in alphabetical order)

Damn, now everyone's being really nice.
egg098, despite agreeing on the whole with what you said, I hardly think it's appropriate for a new user to barge in, create a topic which contains an obscenity and is almost all in capital letters, and then ask a question that could be answered, just as j_ball said, by going somewhere as simple as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRC.
Perhaps if they had come in and started a topic that was nice, informal but still with proper grammar, and asked nicely, then people would have been nicer.

You can look up my first message on this forum if you want.
Or, type jonty-comp into Google to find where the first place I ever contacted the outside world through the miracles of the internets. I was 12 when I did that.

To be honest, I'm one of those people who would rather have a few, intelligent members on a forum than tons of members lacking intelligence.
The fact is, I guarantee you that this kid knows what a search engine is. I have no doubts that he knows how to use one. Why wouldn't he before he asks a question? We would have answered differently if he created the thread saying, "Hey, I've heard about IRC, I've tried searching for it, but I haven't found any explanations of it that I can understand. Can someone clarify it for me?"
I realize that we're all newbies at one point or another, but there are better ways going about things than expecting people who don't know you to wait on you hand and foot. I feel the best way to learn is to do it on your own. Asking for help along the way is one thing, but making an unintelligible post asking to explain something that could be figured out by using a simple search on one of the web's many search engines is another. Put effort into figuring out what it is you want to know, and I'll put the effort into helping you.
Edit: None of you "friendly" people have helped him with what he wants. You guys have only given him IRC networks and links to mIRC and tutorials for mIRC. The only person to point him in the right direction has been me, ironically enough. I gave him a link to research what IRC was. That's what he was asking about, anyways...
whoa.
