Everytime i boot up my machine explorer.exe freezes while everything loads and i have to restart it through the task manager in order to use it.

It's been happening about 2 months after i got ultramon which was about 4 months from now.

The weird thing is, after it has restarted it's fine for weeks on end while my computer is still on.

Any ideas as to why it's doing it or how to stop it doing it.

No, although it's slow to respond. I click Start and about 5 seconds later i get the Start Menu.

Also, while i'm here, dumprep.exe keeps overloading my comp when i right click my servers shaired folder. Yes, that happenes in safe mode too.

If you let everything load, does explorer.exe not freeze? Try editing your startup stuff (Start > Run > msconfig)

I have a bluetooth mouse and i can't move it untill everything loads, that includes intellipoint.

I've edited startup apps down to the basic stuff that are essential to start windows etc, to no avail.

Take a backup, format, reinstall, recover backup?

Let me find the MS tutorial on repairing windows...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341/en-us
That overwrites most -system- files, but will leave your data intact, I suggest acquiring an external hard disk to which you backup your work regularly.

I've tried "upgrading" my windows installation and it gets to the end of the file and says "unable to find file, aborting". I tried another disk and it can't find the same file, although the installation of windows through these disks were fine.

I don't know
I strongly recommend taking a backup of every folder except the windows one (For best results, Start > Run > regedit , and export the entire registry, and use the Files and Settings transfer Wizard - Save it to disk and then simply Copy + Paste your whole hard drive to an external disk as well as the copy of the registry and the *.unc file that the Files and Settings wizard will make) and then reformat the disk. Reinstall windows, then copy your whole hard drive over, then the registry, then the files and settings transfer wizard *.unc file (which will require a restart)

90-95% of settings and preferences aren't lost, 100% of data is kept and the windows folder is replaced with its proper contents.

NOTE: Certain applications, such as Microsoft's AOE III, require things like the XML parser to be installed, that (and anything else you might need) can probably be found on Microsoft's website
Don't forget to install DirectX again!

A lazier alternative would be to make a batch file that runs at boot, waits for a while, then loads explorer.exe. Can't tell you exactly how to get that to work though.

I have used Ultramon for about 5 years or so now and it operates very well. I don't suffer from any explorer.exe freezes.

I would recommend looking elsewhere. Look into your startup routine. Sound's like something is amuck.
