Group of friends all in their teens; prime years in highschool. 4 xbox's 4 tv's 4 copies of HALO 1. Party pack of donuts(few people work at the local donut shop), bunch of drinks(people work at the local wholesale grocery store). Fill up all 4 xbox's with people. Arrange everyone on coaches in the same room so people on one tv can't see any other tv screens.
Your about to have the best 6 hours of our life. For those of you who think not you probably haven't experienced it.

There are a lot of things I like about Halo, but there are also a lot of things I don't like. I've played both Halo and Halo 2 on XBox and find them to be amusing but largely unimpressive, especially since both games have some very silly gameplay mechanics (Halo 1's immortal vehicles that transfer all damage done to them to the passengers instead, Halo 2's lack of falling damage, etc).
A lot of that, I'm sure, comes from the fact that I've never been too fond of console shooters- the controls piss me off and they usually lack quite a bit of depth compared to their PC counterparts. However, Halo falls far, far short of being even in the top fifteen shooters of all time; maybe it would rate top ten for consoles, but certainly not overall. Then again, I also have spectacularly high expectations for my shooters; my introduction to the FPS genre was Tribes.
Honestly, I would buy Halo 2 PC if it were available for XP; I liked Halo PC just well enough to make it worth buying (though certainly not at full release price). I refuse, however, to believe that a game which was made to run on an XBox would somehow require a brand new OS- even with graphics upgrades- and I just flat out will not ever buy Vista. I don't plan on buying an XBox either, so Halo 2 for me will wait until either someone cracks it to work with XP or MS wises up and does the same.

The single player in Halo was just sooooooooooooo boring. I mean I think I've played through it once, or maybe twice. I got easily just as bored with Halo 2 that I didn't even play more than 3 missions or whatever it is. I guess you *could* say the same thinga bout Goldeneye for me (at least for single player) Just that after you got done you could do it on a harder level and you got rewarded with a new level. That, and the fact that if you did them under certain times you got cheats - so there was a lot of stuff to shoot for. (After doing this there isn't much point to do more) I'd still say the MP in goldeneye was much better, just because of the wide variety of weapons, not only that but it introduced other game types (Hiding in complex with flag when no one knows how to get where you are, not to mention having to face a wall so that they can't tell where it is. The mines were fun and a lot of it was just really nice. Though PD is about the same I still prefer goldeneye just because it was first and because it's james bond.

That's a pretty lame reason to remove falling damage... if you aren't bright enough to use that move only when you won't fall into oblivion because of it, then you deserve what you get. Should self-inflicted splash damage should be removed because someone might try to use rockets or grenades at point blank? Games should penalize stupidity, not reward it. :/

Falling damage isn't off in Halo 2. If you fall off lockout or ascension or any of the maps with edges you will most certainly die. Short distance fall damage is off. You are a cyborg marine. Not a Rice-Paper and Glass Baby.

What is tribes like the Harvard of shooters? "I can see how you wouldn't understand, I did go to Tribes Law after all, chortle chortle." Should we all be impressed and take your opinions about Pinot Noir and the various city philharmonics as standards now?

Games DO penalize stupidity. If you use the sword at an upward angle and you fly through the person off the edge, theres no sword fairy who flies up and gently caresses you back to earth and pats you on the head. You fly off the edge and die. The reason why the damage from using the sword angled down would be such a problem is... If you use the sword angled down, it would kill you. If you used it angled up... it would fly you off the edge. Soooooo... Unless you were perfectly centered you couldn't use the sword. I know I know, if they had been educated at Tribes Law that would be easy for them you will say. That's not fun. Halo 2 is meant to be fast and fun. Swords would be a chore if you had to make sure your view was centered every time.
Anyhow it really bothers me when people get so very highfalutin about such trivial things. It's a game. You spend a good deal of your day posting on a old game's forum. Your time is not precious, you aren't a leading academic in the field of videogameology. Just say you don't like something for real reasons. Not because you have just so very high standards that you couldn't HELP but not like it.
