As for playing over a LAN network, you CAN play with people online over a multiplayer LAN game. You need to download (and the people that you want to play with) a program called Hamachi. When you set it up, Create a network (call it anything you want) and set a password. (note: only one person has to create a network on hamachi) When you do, give the info out to the people you want to play with and have them connect. Now host a game and set the IP Address to the OTHER IP listed there. (should be something like 5.x.x.x). Then just have your friends join the game under LAN.
