I like Supreme Commander, despite that it relies on a good processor. The only thing I did not like about it was its too slow paced for me.

supcom is awsome. But be warned it is an extremely demanding game on your system.

You gather resources by building mass extractors and power generators. You never run out of resources, since they are infinite, but to counter this, you need to be able to carefully balance your resource income and base and army building expendature. If you build too much, you won't have enough resources to go around, and if you build too little, you'll edn up wasting a lot of valuable resources that could have gone to base and army expansion.

Construction is handle like standard RTS games, but with a few minor tweaks. You get an armored command unit at the start of the game. This is the unit you used in order to build structures. Once you start building more unit producing structures, (land, air, and sea factories) you can build engineer vehicles, which allow you acess to higher tiers of structures which, in turn, allow you to build more powerfull units. Their are 3 tiers in total, with an experimental 4th tier with super units and structures.

What's funny is that even though the economy seems way simpler than it is in games like Age of Empires, I think it's a lot harder to manage.

I always find myself running out of mass... even with tech 3 mass extractors across the whole map, and loads of mass fabricators, I still don't have enough for my construction Razz

It is. It's like I said in a previous post, it's more of balancing your income and outcome at the same time in order to maintaine a stable flow of units and constant base expansion, rather than just farming food and wood and then building what you can until you run out, and then just waiting for more again.

When I play with my buddies we all share our resources. Helps our team out a TON. Usually one person get assigned "resource bitch" duty as well. I find it harder to protect my resources than to manage them.

Right now, I like it more than C and C 3 (not that it's a fair test, C and C 3 isn't finished yet) - but the only ultra viable strategy in C and C 3 (Right now..) is rushing, which sucks.

so you know, I'm a turtler RTS player, so SupCom suits my gameplay style right down to the ground.

SC is a great game and yes as people have said you do need a good system to run it. SC is a modded up version of TA. I don't know if you remember TA but when that first came out it was the game of the year (My opinion so bitch all you want).

I used to turtle, but then I trained myself to control land instead, which works way better for me. My resource management at tech 1 is nearly perfect, but in tech 2 I have a hard time advancing resources and technology at the same time. Still working on that. But when I'm fully in tech 3, my economy gets a whole lot better. Basically just build endless T3 power generators and T3 mass fabricators, and take the structure bonuses to your advantage.

Yeah, that card is better than my Geforce 6800, and the recommended requirements say a Geforce 6800 at least.

I would recommend getting a video card better than that to suite the rest of your system specs to be honest. A card with 128-bit memory doesn't fare that well. Even though it will run Supreme Commander, you should look into a card that will last you a long time. Since you can get PCI-Express, don't limit yourself to a cheesy video card. At least get a card with a 256-bit memory interface.

Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814186005

Its pricey, but in the end its worth it.

Here are some others I came across:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150202
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150182

Of course you could just save up some money and purchase one 8800 series card. Again like I tell myself though, it all depends on what you want to use your computer for. If you are not a heavy gamer, than the top of the line video card may not be for you.

Let me find it...

"For those who recently upgraded their PC video cards to support DX10, you’ll be happy to know that both Episode Two and Team Fortress 2 will support the advanced technology of these cards, even if the PC is running Windows XP. On the low-end front, Valve still plans on supporting PCs that can only run DX8 applications. Valve’s attempting to also support DX7, but couldn’t confirm if it’d go back that far with technology."

Maybe I was a little off sorry.
