I hope you don’t mind me venting.

For months I’ve known my current job was ending at the end of January. I’m a temp hire who has been here for almost 2 years. My boss has been trying to get an extra person approved in the company all this time to hire me on. So all this time he has been able to keep extending my contract but just a few months ago corporate announced that temp workers can only work 9 months straight then have to be hired on or find a new job then return.

My boss says I do an excellent job and would love to hire me on but theirs a snag. We have a slacker in our department. Guy doesn’t do his job. Hell half his job I’ve been given since he complains that he is to busy. I do my work plus his and still have enough time to chat on the forums lol. If he would sit in his seat more than half the day he probably could get some work done. Instead he visits several people all day chatting.

The department I work in is Telecommunications. I’m the operator for all incoming calls and I give the work out to where it should go. Everyone pulls their weight and will help another out of needed all but this guy. I get complaints constantly about him not following up or doing his job. That’s why some of his responsibilities are now mine to keep from the department having complaints.

I told my boss today why don’t you just fire his ass and give me his work. I can do mine plus his then you have your headcount and don’t have to get another one approved. Well turns out they just did. They fired him today.

So why am I pissed off, you would think I’d be happy.

In order for my boss to hire me he has to be approved to hire on 2 employees. First one he has to hire before me is a minority. See now he is fired and he was black we no longer have a minority in our department. Since I’m white they can’t hire me on. My boss said even if I get a new job once they hire a minority then he wants me back.

Now don’t you dare label me as a bigot since I’m pissed off to no end. Whatever happened to be hired for your works and not your skin color or sex? My boss said my hands are tied I can’t hire you till we hire a minority first. I love my country but this isn’t right. What about fairness for those who work their ass off? What about being color deaf and sex deaf and just treating people as people? Diversity my ass. If this is considered fair they can take diversity and shove it up their ass.

For fuck's sake. I hate affirmative action. It's really a big farce. All it does is creates a "reverse" inequality. Instead of the white man putting the black man down, they slap the white man. Whatever happened to equality of opportunity? Now we're slapped in the face with equality of outcome. It's complete and utter bullshit, and I certainly don't view you as a bigot.

I am SO happy that Michigan passed Proposition 2 to ban Affirmative Action programs. If you want equality in the workplace, hire those based on credentials, not race. It's quite a simple concept, really.

whoa.

Hear hear.

While I agree with what Affirmative Action trys to accomplish, disregarding qualifications for the sake of minority accomidations does not work in actual practice.

Prop 2 ftw!

Anyways, yes it's ridiculous. Currently they are trying to find ways around the prop 2 in our state though. It's been over 3 generations, the crutch is unneeded now.

I've never done this before till now. Seeing how the real world is. Yeah i knew it but i wasn't slapped in the face with it til now.

I walk around work looking at the different departments and wonder. Did you get your job because you were better than the other applicants or because of your a minority and they needed to fill a quota.

If you can get the endorsement of your boss (saying that he wants to hire you but cannot) then I would contact HR and threaten to sue for discrimination.

The only way to make a difference in this world is to step up to the plate and swing.

One of the higher courts would prolly say they can't because of the non-discriminating principle. Then again: it would prolly take them several months/years to get to tha conclusion.

You can find me in The KOSs2 (TK2) discord while I'm playing. Feel free to come and say hi! TK2 discord

I won't fight my work. Right now if they can get me into a different position then fine.

What this does do though is it gets me very interested in politics and writing. In Michigan they over turned this. I know Gbull talked about it but i have friends who live there telling me the same thing. I think its time all states reject this.

Race Relations Act, Sex Discrimination Act.

"No individual shall be disadvantaged or looked upon less favourably due to race, colour, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age."

Im afraid that has not happened in Darks case.

Take it to an Industrial Tribunal and I am sure that if you inform your Line Manager of your intentions, you may see an immediate back down from Management.

Yup. I think I'll be googling at work today. I'm curious to know how they got that over turned.

I'm friends with a woman here at work who is black. I told her what’s going on. She is pissed off about it because it makes her look bad. She was saying makes people look at me and think did I get my job cause I’m black or because I know my job.

It wasn't really "overturned". The Affirmative Action plans were banned. Right now they're trying to overturn the amendment. Nobody but Detroit and the surrounding area wanted to keep Affirmative Action plans legal, so we banned it in a pretty nice margin. I love Proposition 2. Very Happy

whoa.

Its happened here in Strathclyde, Scotland. One of the biggest regions as opposed to a city.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue have been told that we must recruit more ethnics and females.

Thats all fine and well, but they have discriminated against all, straight, white, males.

Its now at the stage, that being white in Strathclyde is to be in the minority.

It has to stop and this can only be achieved by taking them to court and making a legal stance against discrimination.

So, Dark, take them the whole road.

"A case in point: How many female firefighters are there in comparison to the number of total firefighters worldwide and female percent of the total population? Woman can't do the job as well as men or for as long as men. They can do the EMS, cleaning, cooking and rig checks as well men; but they don't fair as well carrying the heavy equipment, tear-down poles, operating the heavy extracation equipment or carrying victims out of a building as well as a man can.

FACT: Most 45 year old, out of shape males can still lift and carry more weight than most in shape 45 year old females. Differences in the genders are responsible for the disparity in this profession. It's not sexism at all. If you can pass the test, you get the job. Most women can't pass the test - it's just that simple.

I submit this opinion: Survey results would show that most Americans would feel safer knowing that a MALE firefigher was carrying them out of a burning building as opposed to a woman."

That's my aunt's opinion on the issue. I can't say I disagree.

I had an interview last week in another department. Just got an offer for full time hire with them. Coincidence? Who knows but I’m taking it. Need to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. That’s my number one priority.

Well, now you won't have to worry about that situation. Does this new department pay more? If it does, there's no reason why you should feel guilty. You were being screwed, and you caught a break elsewhere. Count yourself lucky.

pays $1 less but its full time hire and this company has better benefits than any place i've ever worked for so the loss in pay isnt a big deal to me. Plus i love the hours.

Then you definitely caught a break. Take advantage of it. Plus, you really don't want to be caught up in all of this racial/affirmative action bullshit. You obviously don't care about the cut in pay, so rejoice and be happy.

Great result Dark. Especially with Christmas upon us. Tis the season to rejoice afterall.

See you back in UN to kick some asse. Big Ups

Off topic for BAL, I agree with your sentiments. There is only one female fire-fighter that I have had in my Watch, that can do the job. 6'2", skinny and blonde. The rest have been a waste of space for reasons that you covered.

If they can do the job, accept them, if they cant......self explanatory.

Show no exceptions to the rule, discriminate against no-one.

Positive discrimination allows a female to work in a female toilet, male in a male toilet.

Thats the only time discrimination must be used.

Back to Dark, sorry for hijacking Blush
