Server owners just tend to pick the wrong mods. Mainly because the mod thinks that he/she can break the rules whenever he/she wants. This is the reason why most servers are unpopular.

So why don't server owners choose wisely?

most server owners do choose wisely, just because you don't like someone does not make them a bad mod.

It's because there is a limited pool of players to chose from and to some degree power corrupts.

Plus there's other factors like how strict the admins are and punishments for doing bad stuff.

So long as you respect the server rules and don't act like an arse most servers won't give you any grief. There are always those few that tend to be overly PMS'ing though, just remember what servers they are and avoid them in future.

10 bucks says that this is a rage induced by playing on Kamuix's server. I mod there and do a good job, but there are some mods that do abuse their power. You'll get that in almost ever server in existance. You just gotta put up with it.

A good server owner is very very careful about who he/she chooses to fill moderator positions and will observe a player for quite a while before promoting him/her. However, some server owners aren't that good Tell Me

Server owners/admins tend to pick those who are like them. Just remember that. If you have scum mods the odds are the owners isn't much better.

You just need to find a good server like n00bstories (shameless plug ftw)

That’s true quite a few servers have shite mods.

Personally I trial my mods for three weeks before they are given "full moderator" status, while on trial they are watched, all their kicks etc are checked. Any I don’t like the look of are queried. I don’t like heavy handed mods, that still doesn’t stop some server owners modding all their "mates" with out considering if they would be good mods.

I think it’s quite harsh to tarnish all non mainstream servers (ie jelly etc) with the same brush tbh

Pretty much most of the servers are shit. Jellys ok, nonoobs is ok, BlackCell is good for me.

But i judge servers on not just the mods, it who plays there too.

I would judge noobstories but its always full, and can't really be bothered to wait for someone to leave. Plus the standard of play can be pretty low there.

The main problem with Mods nowadays is, the fact usually the mods have bigger egos than their heads can handle. Thus when they die, its cauases them to explode into irrational banning and kicking.

My usual suggestions as far as servers go (not in any particular order, though) are:

  • Black-Cell -- A very experienced and respectful (on the whole), large, and well-equipped moderating staff to go along with good activity, a large pool of regulators, and some of the most sophisticated server-side modifications in Renegade make BC's servers perennial winners.
  • Black-Intel -- A newer addition to the Renegade community for most, Black-Intel boasts a superb package of server-side mods. However, their moderating staff is rather small and Euro-centric.
  • N00bstories -- Ah, yes. Crimson has put together a solid moderating staff and developed some server-side tricks for her own sleeve; however, NS is almost always F-U-L-L.
  • Gamerz0ne -- If you wondered what happened to FnFall's servers, they just changed their name. A top-notch moderating staff, a large pool of regulars, and a surprisingly sophisticated server-side mod are all featured in the Gamerz0ne Network; be prepared to put up with server instabilities and the occasional cheat test, though.
  • AJZServ -- Even though this server has a small moderating staff and does not draw the activity levels of, say, NS or BC, AJZ has built a very experienced and cohesive moderating staff over the years.

noone ever thinks that there pc may not like RenGuard.


Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

Agreed...one of my fellow Gamerz0ne moderators (Stadi) has had no end to his RG troubles...

Ye. I have been banned from several servers because I snipped a mod... when it wasn't in the "rules"

One time I killed a mod with a pistol, he suddenly got the conclusion that I hack, without even testing me.

One time I did something that wasn't in the rules, a mod banned me for "going against his rules" when I didn't even know his rules.

Another time, a mod stalked me for days on end, until eventuall I did something "bad" and he permenantly banned me.

Mods would ban me for no reason suddenly, just saying stuff like "get the **** out" or stuff like that.
And please don't tell me to go to n00bstories. Personally, I don't like n00bstories.
