For the last week or so I have been planning to start a student program where people can sign up and learn a programming language. Before I do anything I am collecting data from various locations to see how many people would be interested in a student program like this. Some of what I plan to teach depends on what language the people would like to learn, but I was also thinking about doing this one language at a time. (For example, I would teach a C# class for a month or so then switch over to C++, then on to Visual Basic, etc.) Doing multiple languages at the same time will most likely be a headache.

Some of what I plan to teach:
*The basics of the programming language
*Working with consoles
*Working with Windows Forms (GUI programming)
*Windows API's
*Interacting with Windows
*More when I can think of it...

What I plan to cover:
*C# (CSharp)
*C++ 8.0
*Visual Basic

As I said right now I am just collecting data to get some numbers of how many people may be interested in this kind of thing. If you are interested please drop by the Official DCOM Productions Forums, register and post that you are interested, ask any questions or concerns you may have, etc.

Here is the link to the main page: http://www.forums.dcmp.z27.net/
Here is the link to the student program: http://www.forums.dcmp.z27.net/viewtopic.php?p=30#30

EDIT: When you get to the main page about this student program, (second link), don't forget to take the poll question that I added so I can add that information to my database. Also, if you choose "Other" please state what other language you wish to learn in your post.

I will probably even have a poll so I can see which languages will be most likely prefered in this student program. I plan to set aside a few weeks to gather the information I need to get this thing going. If you have any questions please redirect yourself to the links I posted above. I will most likely not answer in this topic much because this is posted in many forums and I don't have time to check every single one.

Thank you,
Dave S. Anderson

This is a very good idea, and could help people who want to learn more than the basics and improve their skills. A good idea Smile

Let all your wishes be granted except one, so you will still have something to strieve for.

It is not a fast paced program at all. Each assignment or lesson you will have about a week to do. So if you think you can squeeze it in to your schedule it would be a great experience for you.

I'm not sure which thread or whatnot I'm supposed to express my interest in, but I would be interested. I'm always trying to learn whatever I can.

Viva la Resistance!
I'm totally NOT trying to be rude, but can you please tell us what the qualifications of the "teachers" are? Again, I don't mean to be mean, but there are a lot of qualified geeks out there that don't seem to be as nice as you - so neophytes tend to eat up shit like this and get taught poor ethics and improper information.

I used to run a "hacker training program" (legally) off a site which matched a variety of skill levels with appropriate mentors. It was quite successful for about a year or so, but I never had enough dedicated mentors to keep the project running. I think information sharing is AWESOME and if there is anyway I can help I would like to. I know a bit about a variety of programming languages and I know a lot about security and methodology. Perhaps you would be interested in expanding this program to cover more than just programming. I'm willing to sponsor your efforts...

Qualifications? Well, I don't have any "specific" qualifications off hand because I am doing this class alone. If you saw the forum that said "teachers" that is there for preparation of the lessons I am going to make, and will serve for better use in the future.

Right now I am not opening any positions for people helping in this class. YET. I will. I would like to further talk to you about this, please add me to your MSN. Maybe you can teach another class and the student program can be further expanded.
