Try these videos:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualc/learning/

I watched one on ASP.NET and Masterpages/Navigation and it was pretty good.

this is what i want:

1) a plain text window (read only) that outputs whatever from cout or some other function.

2) to be able to embed a flash animation in the window.

is this going to require masses amounts of code? so far i can create a button and when you click it changes some text.

if this is not easily possible i will leave it, but i hope it is Smile

First off, there is NOTHING wrong the the Express editions of Visual Studio 2005. It is the same exact thing as VS2005! The only difference is you do not have the templates to create things such as setup projects and what not. Which, you can code yourself! You have access to all the .NET and Windows libraries. So don't go around saying "omg don't use the Express versions they suck" unless you really do have a valid, true reason as to why it may be true.

Second off, I have tried quite a few IDE's and NOTHING and I mean NOTHING compares to Visual Studio 2005.

Help-Linux, you will be best off to learn GUI, (Windows Forms programming) in the Windows Forms forums at: http://www.windowsforms.net and click the forums link.

Add me to your msn as well, I can help you with things related to both Console and Windows Forms GUI Programming. Email: dcom_productions@msn.com

You should also consider looking into the C# programming language for things that do not require the complexity of the C++ programming language. However I can help you in C++ as well.

I was actually going to ask you if you wanted to join DCOM Productions as a Lead Programmer awhile back in the desktop thread when I saw that you were using Visual Studio 2005. If you would be interested, contact me on msn or whatever.

you know what, i think to my self somtimes why do people not like express ed. i have always want to learn forms but i found it to be too much to remeber, but i could always try. i also more or less use (hash)C in my programs.

also i would love to join dcom Wink. if i get a project by next friday i will have loads of time and first hand help on my hands, i am visiting my uncle, he is a first class (hash)C programmer. and the drive will take 5 hours there and maby 5-10 hours back. so 10-15 hours on it. in that time i will get anything working.

That's great to here. Welcome aboard. Rocked Over

I will be preparing your profile for the rest of tonight as well as preparing the new web pages for the website. I probably won't have much time tonight to talk about your position as well as duties, (such a harsh word, because you will have a lot of fun here at DCOM Smile), but tomorrow I will definitely have everything, (or most of it) put together.

I love the Express editions, the only thing I think it lacks is compiling resources. I have some program developed under the rather old MSVC 6.0 which I would like to compile with VC2005 Express, but I think it can edit nor compile resource files. Sad
Apart from that the express editions are really nice Razz

Hmm it didn't work for me when I tried it. I must admit I did not really had time to look into it when I tried it. It still can't edit them though, right? Although there are probably other tools to do the editing with...

Take into consideration though, Visual C++ Express is the only Express version that does not allow resource editing.
