Weird IE bug.....
I don't recall seeing this before, but it is definitely driving me nuts.
Whenever I load a page, the first letter of the meta data shows up in the title bar. ie. if I load up "Renegade Forums" the letter 'R' shows up in the title bar. That's it. It is the same on every page no matter where I go.
I just reloaded my system and I dropped a half million security tools on my system - so I'm sure it is something security related (or a conflict in versions). Has anyone seen this, or more importantly, know of a fix?
Please no "omg my browser is so much better, you should convert" tangents. This isn't a browser debate. I just want help with my IE6 bug.
Thank you.

I found the bugger....
It was 'Google Toolbar'. As soon as I removed it it was fixed. No reboot or anything. Strange.

i hate that google toolbar, it'll alaways find it's way on to ie, even though i don't use ie! i'll load up ie after a few weeks of getting a reformatted harddrive, and some program ive downloed will have installed it.
This is a signature. Reading this is wasting your time.

That is because you blindly click 'yes' or 'next' when you install programs. As you seem to be able to read these forums, you are probably also able to read the install options: do it!

Gotzow you are right on there.
I have seen so many programs during install try to sneek in that google toolbar.
I think google is shooting for search engine world domiance.
Look at your apache server stats on the hit rate the lttle google bot is hitting your web site. I have a picture of all these google bot servers spanning the globe 24/7. hehe.
Everyone has their own opinions on browsers.
Everyone is touting FireFox as the bomb. While true it handles pop ups and has a great open source for plugins. It is not the be all do all browser that everyone thinks.
Do you know you are missing content on pages? No you don't because you can't miss something you never saw.
All the browsers out there have there short comings.
IE7 is out now and looking very much like FireFox, Netscape is following suit also. I use all three when testing web pages.
Try to get FireFox or Netscape to handle a webpage coded with and requiring Microsoft XML 3.0 parser and watch the excitement.
Even if you select Netscape to use the IE engine on that page it will fail.
I even seen seen FireFox fail to display certain web page content while the other two browser handle it fine.
Is IE the bomb? No I don't think that any of them are the bomb.
They all have their quirk's.
I would like to see the best of all of them in one browser. That will be the day when google have just taken over as the only search engine on the web. (Oh and the google toolbar is hard coded)

I use and like the google toolbar: it is a good add-on for Iexplorer IMO. But I suppose it also has it flaws.
I actually like the way google toolbar is offered with other programs:
- it is not imposed to you like a lot of spyware on many programs
- it's easy to uninstall if u're sick of it.

I opted to install it. I've never had a problem with it before and I trust Google more than I trust Yahoo, M$, etc. I think my recent change in security posture has something to do with the bug. Anyway...

Of all the people in these forums, I am among the most qualified to make a secuity assessment. Like I said, this isn't about people's preferences. This is about a bug.
And, HL, I know that you were being a smartass - but others followed your bait.
