About the GFX card, it depends on the motherboard, if you get a very new motherboard they do away with AGP slots in favour of PCIe, but most mid range ones still use AGP.

As for memory, how old is really really old? You can get some programs which will tell you what speed and type your memory is, one I tend to use is PC Wizard from CPUID (http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php), it's fairly in depth and gives you a lot of information about all the components in your system.
