"Wide Awake" by Audioslave
Lyrics written by Cris Cornell (vocals)

You can look a hurricane right in the eye
Twelve hundred people dead or left to die
Follow the leaders
Were it an eye for an eye
We'd all be blind, deaf or murdered
This im sure
In this uncertain time

So come pull a sheet over my eyes
So I can sleep tonight
Despite what I've seen today
I find you guilty of the crime
Of sleeping in a time when you should have been wide awake

Down on the road the world is floating by
The poor and undefended left behind
While you're somewhere trading lives for oil
As if the whole world were blind

So come pull a sheet over my eyes
So I can sleep tonight
Despite what I've seen today
I've found you guilty of the crime
Of sleeping in a time
When you should have been wide awake

Come pull this sheet over my eyes
So I can sleep tonight
despite what ive seen

I found you guilty of the crime
Of sleeping in a time
when you should have been wide awake

Obviously, this song is quite slanted to the left. The underlying issues talked about in this song are Hurricane Katrina and the war in Iraq.

I think this song shows an amazing amount of ignorance in blasting Bush for ignoring the victims of Hurricane Katrine and STILL claiming that the war in Iraq is about oil. Discuss.

whoa.

It's Chris Cornell and 3/4 of Rage Against the Machine. Of course it's slanted to the left. At least it's not as anarchistic as Zack de la Rocha would've made it.

Not that that's a bad thing. Rage was a badass band.

You're going to make Tom Morello cry.

Nah, he'll just write more angry liberal music as the Nightwatchman.

Good burn, although I'm a bit confused by this whole thread.

I don't know. Maybe because I'm seeing good music being used as political fodder. Not that it's a necessarily a bad thing, but an informed opinion in the lyrics wouldn't be so bad.

Plus, it goes to show that people still think that Bush just chose to ignore the Katrina situation and that Iraq is for oil.

There are some people who still think the moon landings were faked; that we shouldn't have nuked Nagasaki and Hiroshima; that the whole prospect of "God" is horse-hooey; that the thirteen colonies were wrong in breaking away from the British Empire.

There are some opinions that time-tested evidence will never change.

..that the whole prospect of "God" is horse-hooey...

How does that fit in with the rest of it?

It's not time-tested and it doesn't have any strong supporting evidence.
