I have heard about the one in the asteroid field and the far out planet b4, never heard anything about classifying pluto's moon as a planet.

As it say's in that article though, it's a stupid idea - don't see any need to be classifying what are pretty much large asteroids as planets.

Yeah, but one of the problems is that Pluto is actually about as big as the moons of some of the other planets, meaning it shouldn't really be called a planet in the first place. Also, Pluto's moon is over half the size of Pluto itself... the current definitions are pretty vague, and it just gets worse when new objects are found with sizes that balance in the grey area that defines what they are called.

Pluto is just a dirtball in space, the only reason why it is classified as a planet is becuase it revolves around the sun and is not subject to any other planets gravitational force.

i'd rather they did change it as nine planets in a line is pretty boring now we might have a twin planet and one stuck in the middle of the asteroid belt wicked huh! Big Ups

edit: if all it takes is for a body to revolve around the sun to be classified as a planet the there could be alot more yet to come (see link)

More planets just means more names in a certain order for middle schoolers to memorize.

I believe the American term is "Fuck that shit".

If it isn't broken, don't fix it. There's no problem with the current setup, so why go fucking it up by adding planets?

I think they should only consider UB 2003 and Sedna as Planets and leave the rest alone.

Ehh yeah, except that it is broken, that's the whole problem.

Er, I don't understand why they can't just settle for "Pluto sized objects aren't planets, but we'll continue calling Pluto a planet because it's historical". Huh Seems a pretty simple solution to me. Just stick a little addendum about it, under the entry for Pluto in science textbooks.

If we classify planets by their size, our moon then would have to become a planet due to Pluto being so small, not to mention the amount of planets we'd have from Jupiter's moons.

If we classify them by whether or not they rotate a star (Sun), then many many many more asteroids become planets.

Either way, I don't care.

It'd be easier to classify them by size, imo.

whoa.

Update on this: the fate of our solar system has been decided.

There are now EIGHT planets in our solar system.

Recent reports show children rampaging in the streets to celebrate not having to remember all nine.

I'd rather drop Pluto rather than gain hundreds of planets because of the whole celestial body orbiting the Sun.

whoa.
