I bought a power color ati radeon x1300 awhile ago (3 months or so.) It has "hyper memory" which is utter crap. anyway, ill read the specs off to give you an idea of what i have.

-64 bit
-128mb GDDR memory
-up to 512mb hyper memory
-pci express
-90 nanometer process GPU

The point is that im not impressed and want to get a better card than this. Something without hyper memory, any suggestions?

My price range is $100-$200 CAN even if its off of ebay, but I want it new not used.

You should be able to find an X1600 XT or Pro (although the XT is much better) for under $200 CAN. A 7600 GT would probably be over 200, but not by much and it'd be faster than the X1600.

I'd go for a 256Mb 7600.

I'd wait and keep saving up until DirectX 10 comes out.

That practically means next year. By that time there will be new things to wait for, like always...but to each their own of course, depends of the budget, obviously.

Are you planning to upgrade to Vista as well? I've read many places that DirectX 10 will only run on Vista. Unless you're planning to upgrade to Vista theres no point in waiting. That's what finally allowed me to decide on the videocards for my computer.

I've got a ATI Radeon X800 XL. It was decently cheap and has always got the job done with graphics set high and whatnot.

Would THIS be a good buy for the price? and would it be better than my other card?

I got a 256MB GeForce 7300 for $78 at Best Buy, and it seems to work pretty well for whatever game I play..

Yeah that would work pretty good and definitely better than your other card. That's also a good price.

Not sure, I've read that the Linux distrobution openSUSE 10.1 beats the Vista beta, and that Vista is very buggy.

I would say that any Linux distribution beats the crap out of Vista.

Unfortunately, games are STILL a problem for linux. There are couple modern games that run on it, but when Vista comes out with DX10, it'll shuffle the deck again.

Okay, i just got a new sound card and was going to get a new video card too, but now i can play bf2 with full graphics @30-60 fps. Before i had medium with less fps.

It now seems that I no longer need a new video card, does a sound card usually do that?

Well, isn't Integrated Sound more of a stress on your CPU than a external sound card? So if that is true, then your CPU would be under less stress with an external card, giving you a boost in performance. Not sure if any of that is right, just a thought.
