Every time I watch them, I want to declare those guys the best guitar players ever.
|
Not only the guitars, but the drummer. He plays double bass. There are not many people who can play the drums like that for more than a minute let alone an 8 minute song, constantly playing.
Not mention he can stay on beat the entire time. With other rock bands, the drummer just loses it at certain parts and it just becomes overwhelming and totally ruins any part of the song you may have considered music.

My drum teacher knows the guy who produces them, he claims when they're in the studio they don't have a clue what they're doing.
A common misconception with drums is that speed = amazing drummer.
Speed only really shows impressive technique.
Oh, and there are quite a few people who can blast like that for 8 minutes, one of them being Derek Roddy.
If you want pure amazing, check out the likes of Vinnie Colaiuta, basically the best drummer ever to live. For example, he could play 4 different time signatures at once whilst counting his 27 times table. He's a monster!
To me, I also find drummers such as Steve Jordan amazing for his ability to nail a groove with such feel. I had the pleasure of seeind Steve Jordan live with Eric Clapton about a month or so back. What he was doing wasn't technically amazing but real drumming is more about feel than speed or technicality.
Check out Billy Cobham and Steve Gadd (my biggest influence) also.
