Heinlein was a damn good author, one of the best in his field. I wish I could have met the man; sadly he died while I was still in diapers. I've yet to read a single one of his books that doesn't contain some kind of social commentary woven into the story in such a way that it enriches and deepens the plot. Your precious movie took a very, very good book, twisted it, and spat it back out as an eye-candy extravaganza with shallow characters, a cliche script, and absolutely none of the depth that made Starship Troopers such a good read. So you think I'm a geek for pointing that out? Damn straight I am. I happen to like good books, and I happen to not like when Hollywood fucks them up.
A little dissimilarity is not a bad thing when translating something from print to screen; it is a different medium that requires that some different techniques be employed to fit the whole story in two hours' time. There is, however, a point beyond which it becomes offensive to me, both as a hopeless bookworm and as someone who intends to someday get his own work published. So yes, I do give a shit, and if that makes me a geek... fine, I'm a geek, and proud of it. Sorry to rant, but you've struck one of a very, very few things that I feel strongly about- mainly because I would never want to see any of my work screwed up in such a massive way, but also because Heinlein just happens to be one of my favorite authors (I get the same way about Frank Herbert's work). You have neither the influence nor the ability to make me shut up, so you can take your oh-so-enlightening commentary and shove it. And do please have a nice day.

Blablabla...learn to take the movie for what it is. I remember when I watched it on the big screen when it first came out and me and my friends couldn't help but laugh most of the time...the other people in the cinema got mad and really took the movie serious, whereas I've always seen it as a satire on those sci-fi/action flics and a pretty entertaining one at that.

Yeah, I was kind of sheltered, and when I learned about things... wow did I learn about things. Being sheltered is one of the worst things parents can do to their kids. Protect? Sure. Shelter? That doesn't do any good... they'll learn it anyways, and it'll be more of a shock when they do.

These guys were transporting a captured Plasma Bug in a carrier. Unfortunately, the tranques they used wore off. The thing began to... uh... "take aim," and the plasma bugs on the ground began firing at the carrier...
Commander: Crap! What are we gonna do?
Soldier: I dunno, how about a little "bombing run?"
Commander: No way, this thing's too valuable!
Soldier: You could get a medal...
Commander: ...Time for a bombing run!
Anyway, they dropped the captured bug on top of the other bugs and it set off this trippy-cool blue mushroom cloud.

I'm actually Christian too. I don't just say that, I do believe in God and love him, but when it comes to sin I actually would seem like anyone else who isn't a Christian probably. As you can see I swear about as much as any person on the internet, and lately (due to a lot of anger I've been dealing with recently) I've been using bad language outside of the internet too quite a lot. Also, I don't respect my parents all the time, and I disobey them sometimes. I also judge a lot of people the wrong way and set up a lot of grudges in my mind. I know that all of that is wrong, and yet I still do it just as much. I'm not perfect, but I'll get better as I get older. But the thing is, being a Christian isn't supposed to be like a religion where there are all these rules and schedules you NEED to follow or else you fail. Sure, Christians try to be as much like Jesus as possible, but it's not like they are these rules posted on a bulletin that you have to follow in order to be a Christian. I can't really explain it, because just about nobody here would understand me. and also I'm not the best Christian ever and I don't know that much at all. Most likely everybody would understand this totally incorrectly.
I don't know, I just felt like saying that. But this was kind of directed towards berkut and people who responded to him relating to this subject. sorry to bring "religion" into the thread; I can take this to PM if anyone wants.

never mind, it doesn't matter.
I know my signature image is broke. I put my stuff on an FTP account incognito gave me, but the server gets taken down for a little while sometimes for maintenance.
