I had no doubt that it would have failed. I mean, give me a break. If you're spreading that around to forums, some KKK member or sympathiser is going to be a member of a random forum. It's pretty much common sense there. Of course, whoever decided that it'd be fun to attack the KKK forums obviously wasn't smart enough to think this thorougly.

I'm not sure how long the KKK have existed, but a century wouldn't surprise me. I wouldn't be surprised if they are around a century from now. I would be more surprised if they weren't.

What's sad is, they weren't always rascist. If I remember right, it was more or less a political thing in the beginning, but some new guy came along and screwed it up. Now we have to watch these stupid tapes at school everyday telling us how all white people are rascist... thanks alot, KKK.

The Klan's first incarnation was in 1866. Founded by veterans of the Confederate Army, its main purpose was to resist Reconstruction, and it focused as much on intimidating "carpetbaggers" and "scalawags" as on putting down the freed slaves. It quickly adopted violent methods. A rapid reaction set in, with the Klan's leadership disowning it, and Southern elites seeing the Klan as an excuse for federal troops to continue their activities in the South. The organization was in decline from 1868 to 1870, and was destroyed in the early 1870s by President Ulysses S. Grant's vigorous action under the Civil Rights Act of 1871 (also known as the Ku Klux Klan Act).
