Dear Crimson,
I'm writing on behalf of the community to ask you to resign renforums to people who care, and generally have time to devote to the wellbeing of Renegade.
Crimson, what are you doing to better the forums? New moderators are nonexistent (just like the current moderating staff), the mission of the forums has faded, and you are hardly posting here. Have you noticed that the administration here is closely paralleling the admin situation that existed in the Westwood Renforums? Or are you never here enough to notice?
Take a moment and read the topics in your forums. They lack any kind of direction/unity. This is because interest in renegade is dying. Maybe so many communities wouldn't fail if you supported the community in the caliber you claim to. This involves actually updating your projects. When was the last time BHS made any critical or useful updates to the game? Actually...
Where were you when EA once again screwed the honest WOL user by choosing XWIS over your supposedly working WOL clone? Did you not care enough to convince Mike Verdu that n00bstories had the capacity and honesty to run WOL? Knowing that so many technically capible, motived n00bstories members would help you run it.
Where were you when your real followers tried time and time again to help you, but you just discarded them?
You have the power, Crimson, not us. Resign, because you obviously can't represent the little guy. You don't care enough to correctly maintain the little guy's forums. Just throw the towel in, Christine.

There are SO many alternatives to WOL. But you're too much of an idiot to know that, because you're just an op from IRC.
First being WU. WU was created by WSE, yes, Westwood Exposed. They were the first to offer an alternative to WOL, way back in 2002 when VTed started winding things down (firing Sherry, setting +m in all channels). This never got off the ground, because Revolt and Ty got in a fight.
Second being CNCR. This EXISTED and was ran by Revolt, England, Kholdstare, Epyon and others and hosted by Edexcel.
Heres the ones that never made it online:
ApaxTeam - x210 created many WOL clones and used Revolts. This never took off because of financial problems, and x210's lack of dedication.
GNOL/TSWOS - Me and semanuk's project to create a Delphi WOL clone with full support for battleclans. It never made it online because our server provider got tired of waiting for us.
REOL - Developed by Scorpio9a. Functioning. Never stayed online because nobody cared enough. This is the version Crimson was supposedly ready to use.
Here are some currently developed WOL clones
FSGS - Not under development anymore
PvPGN - Full support for every WOL game except Renegade
pyWOL - Actively developed Python WOL clone.
Dont even start with me about "there was no alternative". There was no reason, other than Crimson's apathy, that XWIS should have been selected as the successor to WOL.
As for the updates, I'm talking about something other than maintanance that can give the community a reason to exist.

I agree with the renewing of the moderators, ive been waiting around for years for that to open.
The current ones are barely around, and there is plenty of trash that needs to be thrown out. Just look at the Silo, it still has that Dead Five post on top and there has been plenty of "grain" worthy topics since then.

I'm aware of the WOL clones, but how many people are willing to and have the capacity to support those? Not to mention XWIS had already been supporting other C&C games for a few years.
I find it incredibly hard to believe that EA would have ran around having "try-outs" looking for the best candidate to take over WOL, of all things. You know, since they care so much about it. If the deal with XWIS didn't work out, WOL probably would of reverted back to being ran by EA, or more likely would have just been shut down altogether.
Maybe you've been gone too long, but last time I checked jadame has absolutely nothing to to with renforums, renguard, WOL, or BHS. He's an IRCop on the network of a friend.

Wait.... So when did the community decide this? I must have missed the meeting....

I know I sure as hell didn't get the memo. Whiskey tango foxtrot.

Yes, because everyone KNOWS that people won't, heaven forbid, talk about DIFFERENT TOPICS. I mean, seriously! It's not like we can post multiple discussions anyway, much less in categorized subforums!

How old is Renegade again?

I fail to see what is so horrible about XWIS. I connect and play games just like WOL. XWIS > Nil, as said before, as well.

Again, what is so utterly horrid about XWIS? I'm pretty sure it's running.

Such as when?

Contradictions FOR THE WIN! How is she "failing to represent the little guy"? Who is this "little guy" and what's "failing to be represented"?

You have to have dedication to run a community.
|
Because she obviously doesn't need "care" or "dedication" to spend from her own pocket to keep the community running.
And even if she DID resign, who, pray tell, do you nominate to replace her?
And I fail to see what a single IRCop has to do with the entire community. Are we all one big chatroom? I think not. Last I checked, IRCops managed IRC.

It said in my post that Crimson's true loyal followers could have easily helped her with it, instead of just looking at her channel ops, like you.
The only reason Olaf got WOL is because he bugged the shit out of EA. The transition was all his idea, otherwise, WOL would have just sat there until it got terminated by EALA, just like Earth and Beyond. The reason he got it is because HE CARED ENOUGH TO ASK AHEAD OF TIME.

You have no idea how many times people, who have supported her since late 2002, have been disregarded.
If she did resign, I'd say whoever gets a forum up faster will be the new community leader, just like everything else.
The IRCop's attitude reflects Crimson's idea of administration. Have some random, power abusing people who have nothing to do with the Renegade community, step right in, write rules, manage and run a place they have no real connection with.

The only reason I left was because I recognized that there was no fairness or regard for what is important in the community anymore.
Quote: | You are the one who came back here and tried to belittle the administration in a poor attempt to promote your own ideas.
|
I can't belittle what doesnt exist.
Quote: | I can't think of any reason people should even be listening to you.

I was hoping maybe the "laypeople" of the community, mainly because people like you, in an administrative position, see nothing wrong with whats going on.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who cares about the wellbeing of the Westwood fans, because everyone else is just passive.

I read these forums several times a day. Just because I don't post in the general threads doesn't mean I'm not here. I still have TONS of dedication to this community.
Remember, n00bstories doesn't run anything. The entity that I am a part of that is dedicated solely to Renegade is Blackhand Studios. If you think we're not doing anything, I might remind you that jonwil released scripts.dll 2.8 TWO DAYS AGO.
As for the rest of things, you have no idea what conversations have transpired between the person I talk to at EA (who is, incidentally, NOT Mike Verdu) and myself. Things move slowly at EA and I do not release information about things that may or may not happen until I have permission from them.
As it stands now, I actively use administrative access with XWIS to keep things in line. I also run one of the most popular servers in the game, serving out 2 terabytes each month.
I am still as dedicated as ever to this community and it's pure insanity for anyone to think otherwise. Just because I don't always participate in the day-to-day "post your desktop" threads and such doesn't mean that I don't care or that I'm not paying attention. This is a GENERAL forum. Not to mention the silent storm YSLMuffins who has been diligently keeping the Mod forum in line for a couple of years now, and warranto who visits here several times daily as well.
Amanda, aka Jadame Tamuli, is not a part of the Renegade community. He is a fan of older Westwood games and I met him in the old #ww channel several years ago. His maturity and knowledge with IRC and mIRC earned him op, then oper status on the n00bstories network. Since n00bstories.com is a site for gamers in ALL online games, not just Renegade, there is no need for him to be even remotely interested in the game for him to be a great fit for his position.
BHS runs things for Renegade, and BHS helps administrate XWIS Renegade. NOT n00bstories. Just because I am part of both doesn't make it true.
I generally believe that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. While not everything at XWIS is running exactly as I would do it, I don't think the difference are enough to justify any sort of revolt against them. The servers are VERY stable, the ban tools work quite well, and Olaf and DonCarlo are very quick to respond to my emails if I have any problems. I can't ask for much more than that. Furthermore, all of the people YOU mentioned are current or ex script kiddies who could never be trusted with serials and IPs of players.
To everyone else: I appreciate your support. Though normally on a Saturday I get the luxury of sitting at my computer for several hours, my mom is in town staying at my house with her three younger kids, one of which just had a birthday on Thursday. So, I have spent most of the day in my pool and eating barbecued steak.
I'm the bawss.
