Need help with FDS [message #202814]

Recruit

I downloaded and installed FDS on my computer. I edited the server.ini and sercfg_cnc.ini files. However when I startup FDS it loads fine untill it gets to "Creating game channel" inwich it then says "failed to create channel". What might be causing this, and how do I fix it? Also what required settings do I need to set, and to what do I need to set them?

There are 3 possibilities:

Wrong Password
Wrong Serial number
Wrong nick (deleted ?)

When people ask me "Plz" just because it's shorter than "Please" I feel perfectly justified to answer "No" because it's shorter then "Yes"

Now when you say rong serial number, do you mean the FDS serial number or renegades serial number? When I was installing FDS I entered a serial number that started with 0669 and the rest I made up, and in my server.ini file I entered the same number...

Thats the problem, you need a valid serial number.
You can use your client's game serial to start a server.

When people ask me "Plz" just because it's shorter than "Please" I feel perfectly justified to answer "No" because it's shorter then "Yes"

I just changed the serial number to my renegade serial code, and my server works now! Thank you cat for all your help!

I do have another question though...
How would I install my FDS on my server instead of my computer?

wtf, ^^^^that made no sence at-all, you Download the FDS edit the server.ini and thats it, if you have NR you hit FDSconnect

also heres a valid serial

What I meant when I said "renegade serial number" is the serial number I used when installing my renegade game.

Anyway, my FDS only works when I use my renegade serial number in my server.ini

Also how would I install my FDS on a server instead of my computer? I have a server with 800GB of bandwith a month, but its not being used at this time so I might as well utilize it...

@alex: you do know giving out your serial that you use is really stupid thing to do? when someone else install's and runs there FDS they "steal" (well, not "steal" since you gave it to the public Razz

That was true before Xwis came, now it isn't anymore. You can use serials as many times as you want together.

Just install on your server like you would install it on your own computer (use your renegade game serial) and all will be ok Smile

Okay, I have uploaded the FDS.exe file to my server, but how do I install and run it on the server instead of downloading it back to my computer?

ahh, the good ol' days, i miss em' alot. i wish WOL was still around :`(

is it just me or since XWIS took the servers, i have not been able to join through an invite or the buddy list? it joins to a chat "channel" of the server but no-one 'hears' me or list any text in the "channel".

Any valid server serial is a global serial nowadays.

Yes, I do miss WOL: the 2 weeks outages with no info at all every 3 months (if lucky) because some EA employee clicked the wrong button or spoiled some coffee on those old servers noone knew what they were there for, were fun Sarcasm

You shouldnt be giving your serials out, someone could go use it to attack a server and get it banned.

There were no official global serials AFAIK.

People thought they had the global serial when XWIS stopped checking serials, as it worked for any server, but really it wasn't.

Now that validation is back on, yo either need a valid FDS serial of Client Serial.
