Yet another Jack Thompson news post, this time it's about, guess what, VIDEO GAMES! I fucking hate this man. My mom always told me not to hate anything, and I never did, until I read some of this dipshit's thoughts. I bolded the part I found to be completely and totally wrong.
Quote: | Jack Thompson has resurfaced again and this time he is directing investigators in a Louisiana murder case to investigate the angle that suspects may have been motivated by video games to murder.
The crime took place in West Feliciana Parish, an unincorporated part of central Louisiana. Two teens were arrested for first-degree murder and armed robbery of 55-year-old Michael Gore on Wednesday.
Thompson stepped in when he heard the reports describing the nature of Gore’s wounds. "Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you’re a hit man or a video gamer," Thompson commented to The Advocate.
Thompson also related the crime to Grand Theft Auto since the sixteen year-old suspect confessed to the police that they killed the man because he wouldn’t let them borrow his car, "the same scenario in Grand Theft Auto."
"I think [the murder] goes beyond video games, but who’s to say?," Captain Spence Dilworth, an official involved in the investigation told The Advocate. Nonetheless, police did search the teen’s home and seized several M rated games.
Both teenaged suspects will be tried as adults in court.

Thompson | Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you’re a hit man or a video gamer

Of course, unless you count that a bullet to the head is probably the quickest way of death (short of snapping the spinal column), and by far the surest.
No, of course. Bullets to the head only came around AFTER video games. Before the age of Grand Theft Auto, nobody even thought of shooting people in the head, right?
</sarcasm>
I'm willing to wager money that this man has never sat down and serriously played a video game in his life.

Also, he was the one who came up with A Modest Video Game Proposal, and then renigged on the deal after someone made the game he specified.

The idea behind all this hype is that people are constantly trying to find new scapegoats to place the blame on, instead of themselves. It isn't video games they should be worried about, it's the people who play them and can't distinguish between reality and a game. Those are the people that make the headlines, and those are the ones that get overblown by the media.
Do we see anywhere in the mainstream media about the POSITIVE effects of videogames? Is the media interested in the story of a 13-year-old who was able to save his brother's life, due to him playing as a medic in America's Army? Do we hear about Child's Play, which last year alone raised $605,000 to buy toys for children's hospitals? Do we hear that because of videogames, normally shy and timid gamers are now becoming more open, since they now have a community that does not shun them away like regular society?
No. Because if it bleeds, it leads.

I think somebody needs to sit ol' Jackie Boy down with a nice shooter, then take him to the shooting range afterwards and see if he still thinks games have anything at all to do with shooting people. My hunch is that he's never handled a mouse or a handgun.
I don't know about anyone else, but I notice the opposite effect... I'm a damn good shot IRL, but my aiming in gaming leaves much to be desired. ^_^

Stagnant water, stagnant politics...it's all the same, one's just a little harder to purify.
