I've got the same problem over the last 6 months and it's pissing me off bigtime...sometimes it seems fixed, but then an hour later when I restart Renegade I get those annoying freezes again.

I defrag my PC all the time, have reinstalled Renegade over and over and had AVG Anti-Virus and Ad-aware scanning numerous times.

Pirate, did you ever do the BIOS stuff suggested here? Or did another virus scanner find something? I'll clean my fan anyway, but I'm kinda running out of options here since I share my internet connection with 4 other computers in the household.


EDIT: Renegade is the only game with these issues.

talktalk suck. badly.
I know that fragmentation can cause huge problems with performance, I used to get 400 ping cos always.dat was in 522 peices.

talktalk ISP is a brittish ISP. its ADSL at 2megabits downstream and 400kilobits upstream (<i think)

im with bulldog, 16megabits downstream and 1megabit upstream (< Big Ups )

I had this for a long time as well, "JohnDoe". at sometime during feb/march or something I did an update for video card drivers (i've got a radeon) and it stopped. Ever since, I haven't updated in fear of any newer one messing it up again.

Yeah, i have Catalyst 6-2 which you probably can't find on the ATI site but if you can't, i have the installer on my computer if you want me to send it and take a very long time.

I've got a Geforce 6800 now, but afaik the problem has already existed with my Radeon, so I don't think the drivers are the issue. However, maybe there are remnants of the old ATI drivers on my harddrive that didn't get uninstalled or something. Does anybody know of a program that finds those things?

EDIT: I think the problem first occurred after I installed some new direct x that came with the Riddick game and I think I had an error or something...is there a way to uninstall Direct X or downgrade it?

yes i know, i was just showing what they were advitising. i was with telewest before, they said i have 10mbit downstream and 365kbit upstream for £35 a month. i got, at the most, 1mbit down and 100kbit up. and their cable... not ADSL...

Not sure if it'd help but I use a TFT 17' so but I altered my Screen Moniter to 200Hz(By Right Clicking Desktop/Properties/Settings/Advanced/Moniter/ then change your Frequency ,thx to a friends help and my fps would rise to a much higher FPS but I'm not sure if it would work with yours. Just a suggestion.

you do know this can lead to damaged hardware? increasing the refresh rate can seriously damage your graphics card or monitor. its not reccommended.

oo right Thought something bad was bound to happen, I was a little hesitant when going to the highest frame rate.My maximum is 200, right now it is at 70Hz for safety, Thx a lot Big Ups

my LCD is at 75hz and my CRT is at 85hz.

usually theres a tickable box thet says "only show options that the monitor can support" or somthing along those lines and then you can select avalible options from dropdown lists or sliders.
