I recently tried to install the "Renegade mod tools" and after it installs it only installs 2 folders in my "mod folder" the 2 folders that it creates are called "editor cache" and "levels". The "Editor cache" folder contains 4 files and the "Levels" folder contains nothing. I installed the mod tools on a different computer and there are more folders than just those 2 but on this computer it's not installing them. I've tried to copy them from the other computer but level edit won't open correctly, it just gives me an error saying that all the files are missing (terrain, objects) and it asks me to load them manually but they don't exist (it gives me an option to find them manually or ignore them) clicking on either option will give me another error telling me to send a report or don't send and if i click either one it just shuts down.

Dont worry, it installed correctly. When LE starts up it asks you to choose a mod folder. Simply click "create new" and name it what you want. This adds a new folder for your new map / mod.

It could be that on the PC you are trying to install it on has a bad renegade installation. Try maybe re-installing renegade, then install level edit.

I have the C&C the first decade installed and the default install directory for that is "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade(tm)\Renegade" would that matter for the installation of the renegade mod tools? and if so is there a way to correct that and make it work around this installation of ren?

C&C The First Decade does cause preoblems with the Renegade Mod Tools and I'm in the same situation. I've been playing around with alot of settings and moving folders and stuff, but so far I haven't found a solution.

Try reinstalling Renegade to C:\Westwood\Renegade. That's where the level edit program looks for all the model/textures.

Problem is that The First Decade won't install it like that. I've tried taking the Renegade section and putting it in there, but that didn't work for me.

What you need to do is open Renegades folder and find the real renegade folder hidden inside the other folder inside copy that folder to westwoods place. This is how i got it to work with the first decade.

No good, I even made sure all previous files from the last installation were removed.
