I keep getting the error version mismatch what should I do?

You probably screwed up the installation somewhere. You'll likely need to reinstall.
Alternately, if you are using Renegade IP to connect, make sure that your name does not have any low- or high-ASCII characters (especially the low ones). I find that I also get version mismatch when my name has low-ASCII characters in it, whereas I can connect fine without them.
