Here's a suggestion whose time I believe has come... Why not plunk a function into the coding of these forums that makes topics which haven't had a post for over some set amount of time auto-lock so that way no one(well, none of the normal members) can revive it for no apparent reason other than to amp up their post count. Nine times out of ten, if I see a topic that has a post gap on it over two months -- and actually, it's usually a gap of a year or more! -- then it's some new person who obviously doesn't grasp the concept of "Let old topics die unless you have something intelligent to add". Thus, they find themselves the victims of a lot of "n00b-saying"; they get themselves mocked early on, and in some cases, either flare back idiotically, or just never return.
In any case, I'm tired of seeing these god damned topics that are older than most members being revived by people with nothing better to do. I emplore you... Add an auto-locking function to topics that haven't had a post in over a month or so...
Thank you for reading this.

That would be pointless. Even if an old topic was bumped, it rarely ever happens. And to go through the time to implement a function like that into the forums would make for a wasted cause.

I'm pretty sure this wouldn't take such a long time to implement it. I don't know this forums system though, but for PHPbb2-forums it would be rather easy.

But they don't. I have yet to see a single Moderator lock a single ancient topic without it having burst into flames first. My working theory is that they're just too damned lazy, or maybe they just don't care. Seeing old topics revived without point is just irritating. And it happens more than you think.

You can't expect them to look after these forums 24/7.

If they were as lazy as you claim, what makes you think they'd implement a mod such as this?
To me, a mod that auto locks topics would be pointless, there are times when reviving an "old" topic is necessary or convenient.

You are wrong. When I see these old bumps I always remove the posts from the thread to un-bump it. I usually delete the messages completely to remove the post count increase.
I'm the bawss.

Not to mention if a topic is auto-locked... what if someone who had something actually intelligent to add to that topic comes at a later time and isn't able to because the topic is locked. If the person decided to make a new topic with this information, they'd likely be attacked because the topic was already made before. Thus adding a new problem instead of fixing a small, almost non-existant, problem.
