Those are really helpful tips. I knew most of them, but only after learning them the hard way--new players should take notice.
One other small tip comes to mind:
If you are an engineer who's out in the field repairing tanks, the C button (crouch) will make you a smaller target if you're standing behind the tanks. It's no cure-all for those mean old snipers, but it helps--you can still move side to side while crouching. It also reduces the risk of splash damage.
