I've bought this game awhile ago and never really played it, but I found it in my stack of CD's and now I'm interested in playing it.
I downloaded and installed the 1.037 game patch already and so far it is working fine. I also registered a Westwood online account.
Questions. What other useful things should I download? Also, I noticed some cool looking mods for the game like the Red Alert one. Are they worth the time? If so, which ones would you all recommend? Should I use the Westwood Online option for online play? Or are there better and/or more populated servers somewhere else? Anything advice any of you would like to say?
Sorry if you already have a topc with questions like these already answered, but I looked around a little and didn't see anything titled like "Complete newb. What to download?"

I'll keep those map related links in mind, but for now it looks like I got a sharp learning curve ahead of me before I get into extra stuff.
Wiki doesn't seem to be working for me... I'll try again.
So the Core Patch 1 is already added with Renguard? I just downloaded Renguard via Crimson's above link, so his next link he gave is superfluous?

Not exactly, it will start downloading it the first time you connect. It will sometimes run into errors though, in which case you should try the standalone version.

The CP1 auto-download is disabled at the moment because it's not working correctly. That's why I suggested using the standalone version.

A good idea before you go online, is to complete the multiplayer prcactice. This will tell you about units, bldgs, bases, etc... If you need help still, ill happily hop online with you and show you the ropes.

And crimson is not a he .
Let me advice you to play on Westwood Online instead of gamespy. I personally like it more (nothing against gamespy players at all though!).
You can find me in The KOSs2 (TK2) discord while I'm playing. Feel free to come and say hi! TK2 discord

Heh. Sorry about the gender mistake. My mind habitually assumes all people who play online games with some violence are male.
So far I've played roughly 3-5 hours online and it is quite fun. Reminds me of www.wulfram.com which I used to play. They share the same concept: Destroy the enemy buildings to hinder the enemy or to stop the enemy from spawning.
I use the Westwood option to whom it may concern.
My biggest problem at first was handling money. I thought everyone shared their money together. I wouldn't spend hardly any of the money. Then after a while I noticed that my money would only drop when certain buildings blew up or if I spent it.
Then there was the problem with mines and C4, but I quickly learned about them through trial and error. Kaboom.
I'll stop rambling now. My in game name is ChristBro. So far I have been playing in the games at the top of the list in the default order. In fact, I'm planning to play right now. So if your on and you want to, send me a hello or something.

Kewl. I'll check those sites from now on.
Does distance affect how much you repair with the repair gun? EI: Get real close to heal faster?

Correct. Repair guns have a limited range but their effectiveness isn't limited by range. HOWEVER, I believe that while your repair beam is "wagging around", its target changes. So, the closer you are, the more often you're hitting your target. (This would be more noticable on a beacon rather than a tank, for instance.)

No, I didn't know that character repair guns are more effective. Useful.
I'm not really remembering names right now. I'm lucky if I can stay alive for 2 mins and get a score with at least 3 digits.
New Question. Which GDI vehicle is the best against NOD's flame tanks? I usually drive a Mammoth Tank, but if I run into a flame tank, I have trouble. I'd guess the Orca Copter would be best for more obvious reasons, but if you don't have a flying vehicle, which would be the best?
