Maybe if you explained your topic/point better I could give you an actual response. Explain.

Are schools safe? No
Is it safe at the youth sporting event with crazy parents? No
Is it safe at work with the mentally insane, manic depressive employee that doesn't talk to anyone? No
Is it safe to mow the yard with a pack of pitbulls next door trying to break through the fence? No
Is it safe to eat candy you get from Halloween? No
Is it safe to stop and talk with the guy screaming at you, as you drive home from work? No
Should you buy a gun to protect yourself? No
Should you worry about all of this? Why, what does it change?

Are schools safe?
Most of the time, yes they are. It really depends on WHERE you're going to school...

Is it safe at the youth sporting event with crazy parents?
No argument here...people get so fucking twisted over a stupid rubber ball...

Is it safe at work with the mentally insane, manic depressive employee that doesn't talk to anyone?
That depends entirely on their personality, not on their disorder. I know a number of folks who are bipolar and they're safer than most "normal" people are.

Is it safe to mow the yard with a pack of pitbulls next door trying to break through the fence?
Not if you work as a mailman Razz

Is it safe to eat candy you get from Halloween?
Most often, yes. I've never heard of anyone who's been harmed by halloween candy. Bullies who like beating up other kids for their candy, however...that's a different story.

Is it safe to stop and talk with the guy screaming at you, as you drive home from work? No, but driving e-e-e-extr-r-ra slo-o-o-o-w to piss off the tailgating bastard is LOADS of fun...

Should you buy a gun to protect yourself?
The Founding Fathers sure seemed to think that was a good idea. If you know how to use it, you're safer with than without.

Should you worry about all of this?
Fuck no. The chances of any of it happening to you are about the same as winning the lottery. All the same, being ready just in case something DOES happen is always a good thing...

The case mentioned by SEAL was what is commonly known as a Police-Assisted Suicide. The kid was suicidal; he brought a spray-painted airsoft gun to school knowing that it would look like he was really out to kill someone. He pointed it at a member of the SWAT team, and they did exactly what they were trained to do in that situation. Unfortunately, nobody knew it was a toy until after it was all over (He really paid attention to detail- the replica was painted to look just like a real weapon, right down to a few patches of worn-off paint showing exposed metal). Poor kid knew exactly what he was doing, and the outcome was exactly what he intended it to be. I feel worse for the officers who had to take him down...

No. They're becoming safer.

And that incident about the kid in the bathroom that you seak of... A kid had a pellet gun (not BB, but pellet, those small pointed metal slugs) with the orange tip painted over to look like a real gun, showed it to his friend, and pulled it out in class, the teacher called the resource officer at the school. The kid ran around campus with the gun out as the officer chased him, he cornered the kid in a bathroom, and shot him when the kid pointed the gun at him.

Not stupid...he knew what he was doing- had planned it out days in advance, made preparations including an EXTREMELY realistic paint job on his "weapon," even hinted at his intentions to others (which could be interpreted as a sort of last cry for help...most people who attempt or commit suicide don't actually want to go through with it if somebody is willing to stop them). That isn't stupidity, it's intelligence in a very, very troubled mind. It's a tragedy for all involved.

If it was suicide, then it was intelligent.

If it was unintentional, then he's fricking stupid.
