From the discussion that went on in that topic, and then the long demonstration caveman made, this seems to be the case. If so I thought I should point this out - it means that anyone can circumvent the system and fool everyone into thinking they're running renguard, when they aren't -- the server owner has just put them on the ignore list. And how many people would really be bothered going to the IRC server and using !rglocate after the server telling them the player is using RG?

The ignore list is there for players whom are on the same network as the server while both are behind NAT -- if such an occurance happens, the player would not be considered as running RenGuard even though they are, because they would connect to the gameserver using a different IP than RenGuard sees them on. If the gameserver administrators abuse this file, that is their perrogative, really.

If you own the server you can do what ever you damn well please on it. If you want to "fool" RG then so be it. You wont have anyone to play with on your server but you have every right.

Since when do they get a right to make it that everyone has to use RG except themselves and even go beyond that and cheat if they so pleased; especially one that isn't so obvious. It's one thing if you say that you're going to cheat and you say it; it's another to endorse RG and then stab everyone in the back by not using it. Just because you own a server doesn't give you the right to be a jackass about things. (yes, i know technically you can be a jackass; but it doesn't make it any more right, does it?)

Well, one thing is sure: it's bad for RG's reputation... Imagine someone is clearly cheating (a server owner) and you do !rg xxx and it says he has RG...

Let me say this again, this was not intended to discuss whether or not there should be an ignore list...it was just to point out that when joe bloggs is on the ignore list, the SERVER will report that joe bloggs is using renguard, even if he isn't.
So don't remove the ignore list; instead, reprogram the SSC code to tell the player whether or not they're using it, followed by something like "but does not require it"...well that's what I would do.
