The memory on a video card barely matters as much as the GPU itself. The Geforce 6800GT is FAAAAAAR greater than the Geforce FX5500. The FX5500 is what people call a budget card. It's cheap and runs half-decent, but not that good at all. I have a Geforce 6800 128MB (not GT) and it's a million times better than my last card (a Geforce FX5600 256MB).

The Nividia 68 series are good cards, if you are to get one the best one would be the 6800Ultra. It has the highest spec within the 68's

Do not get any of the 5 series Geforces. There were serious performance issues. If you want a future proof video card, get something in the 6 series.

I couldn't agree any more. Don't get a 5 series card, get a card from the 6 series (and make sure it's NOT a Geforce 6200, those SUCK too).

www.overclockers.co.uk

Only tried them once and they kept telling me the item was out of stock up until i cancelled my order, but most of my friends swear by them being good and efficient.

Thanks Parad0x. Im not seeing a lot of choices here but i would go with these:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/6600AGP_Series.html
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/X800_Series.html

The items I like are sold out on this page. These should work well if you have a good system (especally power supply). They only have 1 6800 card for nvidia and its a 6800XT (a budget 6800). I would rather buy another computer that has a PCI-Express slot(s) since there are more options for graphics.

As far as I know, there is no 6800XT. Either you're talking about a 6800LE or the plain old 6800.

Bleh, cut down worthless version. It's probably the same as a 6600GT.

You can get XT versions of nividia cards but unlike ATI XT is the lowest.. Im not 100% sure on this but i think it goes.

Ultra
GT
Stardard
LE/SE
XT

If you look about and find a 6800 Ultra it will hav 16 pipelines maybe 20 but the XT will only get 4-8

Hope this helps

The 6800GT will always have 16 pipelines. The 6800 also has 16 pipelines, but four of them are locked (making it 12). You use RivaTuner to unlock them and hope you won't get any artifacts. I unlocked them with mine and I haven't seen any artifacts. It's a great performance boost. Thumbs Up

I'd honestly get a 6800GT or GS; just make sure your PSU's 12v rail is high enough.

Also, never ever buy a 5x00 series card, unless you're just getting it in case of a card failure.

Well, did you get it? Did you install it? Do you like it? Do you have a verdict, or should we send this to the jury?
