Yes the research is far away from testing or working on humans, but consider what would happen if everyone lives for 500 years.
1. You would probably be a "teenager" for 300 years!
2. There would be such a thing as a "400 year old virgin"
3. Home mortgages that last 30 years wouldn't seem so bad anymore.
4. You would buy a lot more cars
5. You would upgrade your computer 100+ times.
6. You would have great-great-great-great grandchildren, and stiill be able to see their graduation
7. Supermodels would be "super" for decades
8. You would spend $500,00 on pet food (assuming they lives 6x longer too)
9. You could buy some stock and you would definitely be a millionare eventually as long as the company stayed around.
10. Your life insurance would either go way up, or way down.
Any more ideas? Personally I think <conspiracy> the "government" would never allow this research to be available, as the planet probably could not sustain the massively increased population explosion. </conspiracy>

How is this unethical? And why do I feel that Aubrey is full of shit? It slows the aging process it dosen't stop it. Lets say the average human life span was 50, for easy math. Seems to me you would start feeling old at 400 and would have 100 years to deal with the dieing process.

Easy math huh? 50x6=300 40x6=240
If this is based on starving the body of calories, and thus nutrition. I guess this could solve overpopulation with the flood of frail, unintelligent, infertile men.

Hmm, It would take us 1/10th of the speed of light and 40 years of travel to get further then our solar system. They are already working on hibernating. Like some animals hold a wintersleep, they are working on this. But 500 years? alive? I doub't it will be possible, you would get something like a Cyborg/human. But some organism/bacteria can do this..

yeah, well, they already cloned a sheep didn't they?
I think they are pretty close to this..but do you think it would come out in public verry soon? No it will be kept among the people working in places like Area51. Cloning people would be just wrong imo, but what are we to do about it.

Like mision08 says. Maybe streching the time you are young is nice, but you will possibly also stretch the time that you are old. If I look at some old people, I don't want to become like them. And having to spend 100 years or something of slowly dieing sounds to me like real hell. Just to think of all the old people who have to be taken care off.
Size doesn't matter.

Cloning people was voted "unethical" by the church, the UN and the EU. So if the US do clone people, they`ll have a lot of problems with the rest of the world  .

Meaning that whoever gives the more money will live longer.He will be SUPREME and above everybody else, making everybody else`s way of life seem unimportant.
If this topic had a poll about this, i`d vote against continuing this research.Currently only politicians, thieves, assholes, bigger assholes, the biggest assholes have big ammounts of cash.Meaning that they can continue their reign of evil, so to say, for half a millenium.Imagine if Al Capone terrorised the US for 500 years. Our lives would be a lot more different now.
What about a 300 years old Osama Bin Laden attacking the US for the n-th time over and over again...

overpopulation can be handled, just look at China. (albeit they waited long enough, though)
as for being old longer: there are some people who take their life for granted and do things they haven't done yet (There are old folks who go sky diving;etc.) Not to mention if i'm remembering from what it says it helps to prevent cancer - a huge cause of death.
as for the church I really don't think there was anywhere in the bible that said anything against cloning or living longer. Hell, since then our some of our lives have tripled what it used to be. Cloning has gone far in today's world already. I read somewhere where they actually can clone a lost cat. (they didn't get so far as dogs, if i remember) although having a pet that lives as long (heh, or even longer than you) could prove useful for families. I think it'd be unbelievable to not continue researching because of the things that would prove useful (Hey, having a pet last even twice as long as a normal one is enough to ask for continuation in research, let alone 6 times the norm)
Maybe there are people out there who believe they might go to hell if their lives extend beyond whenever it is they think the deadline is. So be it. If it ever came to be my choice i'm not going to risk 6 lives (and it's probably not even going to last that long most likely. I mean each probability of "in a lifetime" is multiplied by 6, because you're living that much longer) I'll take the chance of living longer instead of going against whatever the church thinks will happen.

More people living longer, as long as they're not like.. decomposing... means a larger work force. More shit can get done. More cities can be made. More minds can study longer and solve our problems. Flying out to another planet, taking 3 years to get there, won't seem so bad; the time it takes to reach other locations right now is a bitch and is one of the major things curbing it from happening as far as I can tell. 11 years to figure out colored bubbles wouldn't seem as extreme a time.
(Oh, and Reborn will get version 4 out the door, after cycling through a staff of 8,750 come-and-goers)
