SP2 is Service Pack 2 for Windows XP.

It is the second bundle of fixes Microsoft has released to fix bugs and security holes with their XP Operating System.

Now when I try to install Renegade it says that a setup problem has occured and has to be closed Question Question

Don't know what's wrong and could need help

As I told earlier I had the same problem, but thanks to the help of Dead6re I've succesfully installed it.

First delete everything you have on Renegade including the registery, you may want to keep your saved game.

Then reboot and explore the install disk and search for Vbrun60 in the map Setup.
Klick it.

Run the setup (not the autorun.)

This worked for me so good luck!!!!!!!

It does fine for me too, although it gets in a lock-up some times when I exit.

The way to fix this, is by not slipstreaming SP2 and just installing Ren before this. Ho[e this helps Big Ups

I haven't checked about Service Pack 2, I'm currently awaiting my version to arrive since the installer doesn't work for me. It can't fetch my product id, but after it has finished, maybe this weekend coming I will be checking and try to find out any way to install and run Rengeade on SP2 if the vb runtime files do not work.

Let all your wishes be granted except one, so you will still have something to strieve for.

You can remove Service Pack 2 without formating your hard drive. It is in the add/remove program list. Even if it was not removable, a system recovery on a pre SP2 O/S would remove it as well. I believe I would uninstall anything Renegade and WOL, delete the Westwood folder at C:/Westwood and any temp files. Then try a fresh install. Is the computer normally stable or is this just another error to add to the list.

I would get rid of WMP before I would re format my HDD. You can always download k-lite WMP Classic.

If you cant install it have you thought about redownloading Disk 1? to me it sounds like a problem with your disk.

My ren has never had a problem with SP2, I had Ren installed, then installed SP2 (abut 2 months after it was released), no problems.

After a regular format, I installed SP2, then renegade, still no problems.

I'll probably slipstream at some stage, but not right now.

I had similar problems with EBFD and RA2. Fortunantly, I had EBFD installed and a No-CD patch fixed it for me, and I just got really lucky one day and RA2 decided to install. I'm running SP1, so I know SP2 isn't the problem.
