Today is November the 11th, 2005-- the year of the Veteran. Today is the day that we take time out of our lives to remember those who have given their lives and their service for our countries.

In this year of the Veteran, we remember those who fought in our world's most cruel wars, both living and dead. Their sacrifices allow us to live the way we do today, and thus, we are all eternally indebted. Every single thing we do is possible, because men, women, and in many cases, even children took up arms and came together to fight for a morally just cause.

This year of the Veteran does not mean we remember the wars. We remember the soldiers; the fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters, and the families of those who stood up to fight for what they believed in. All these soldiers are deserving of being remembered.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Semper Fi, Lest we Forget, Je me souviens.

Yes i was watching the news this morning about the veteran's, the government in the UK did a sarvey and they found out 20% of them only receive £5000/per year that is unacceptable, look at what they had to go through to stop the war and whatnot and they only get enough money to live on..

America doesn't givea fuck about its veterans because they're mostly so anti-war they can't even fathom supporting the troops, let alone the veterans.

whoa.

Not entirely. I support our troops. Although I'm in school due to the hurricane, I took the time to remember the veterans. Veterans rock, kthx.

Why do the yanks call it Veterans day btw?

I mean it's a day to remember and honour those who lived through all conflicts and those who died during them. Veteran to me implies they are still alive, so what about the dead ones? Huh

I recently made a desktop wallpaper to commemorate the fallen soldiers of Vietnam. I googled images, and found some differant wars, but I atleast managed to make the damn thing. And it's from MS Paint, so don't expect it to be good. And yes, the main background image isn't Vietnam either.

Edit: Edited something out. Didn't read it properly.

Veteran
#2 A person who has served in the armed forces.
#3 An old soldier who has seen long service.

The men who died are also Veterans. That is why it is called Veteran's Day.

Because after World War 2 we changed the name to incorparate all wars our veterans have fought in, not just in World War 1.

I Don't think it really matters what it's called it's a day of rememberance. Honour those that have served the cause of freedom and those that continue to serve it. Honour those that have died and those that continue to put their lives on the line so that we may be safe to take 2 minutes of our day, once a year in the act of rememberance.
