Well recently, I've been very interested in getting an MP3/music player.

So, after having a look at the iPod nano, I've been tempted to get an iPod. Although I'm not sure that will be the best option, the iPod nano does seem pretty cool but heh, I need you people to reccomend me/highlight good points and bad points about certain music players <3

alot of people I know at school told me the iPod nano isn't really worth it because how fragile it is, also It'd be nice if the particular music player could store differnt files on it as well as music

Yeah, the nano supposedly scratches easily... probably a scheme to sell skins for it but if you want the nano, buy a skin. Smile

Dave be more constructive, at least highlight advantages that the Zen micro has over other MP3 players.

If you're buying a HiPod, then be looking to write to Apple to get a new battery in about a year.
Those things are notorius for the batteries failing after a year.

Otherwise they're fantastic.

I have a generic brand 128MB MP3 player, and it's absolutely fine (after I flashed it to a more stable firmware). All it lacks is a better equaliser. (Only 128, but plays MP3s and WAVs, stores the odd file too).

Try before you buy, iPods aren't necessarily the best because everyone has one. Find one that gives the sound quality your after.

hey, slight update kind of. I was talking to my dad, and he said I had to get one with at least 20GB, prefferebly more. Mainly because of how large songs are getting and increasing in quality, and soon 5GB to 10GB and under wont be anywhere near standard.

So have you seen any monsterously large MP3 players out there?

The biggest is an ipod, they have a 60gb i believe, but I don't know where you get the idea that songs are getting any bigger in size and quality.

Quality is going up, compression algorithms are also getting more efficient. (Almost balancing, but not quite, sizes are on the rise, but not hugely so)

If your looking at 20GB, i'd say it's a fight out between iPod and a Creative-made player.

I haven't used either, so I can't recommend either.

Creative players have more features, and a 20GB Creative MP3 player would be $180. There's also another brand that is really good, but I forget the name.

DO NOT GET THE NANO. There have been many, many people reporting theirs getting scratched very easily (even if they treat it like a king) and having the screen crack from just putting it in their pocket.

heh, forget Ipods. Get one of those linksys wireless Mp3 player docks that lets you detach the mp3 player and use it by itself or dock it and send your music to your stereo.

Ipod are terribly overprised. Also: 20 GB, WTF??? You'll never use a 10th of that. If you're gonna buy a 20 gb player, then at least buy one that can also play video...

Quality of songs going up? If you have a 5 minute song that takes 10 MB, that's A LOT and you will never hear any quality difference between cd-quality and higher quality. Your ears aren't made to hear a difference Razz. So that would make about 2.000 songs. Tell me: do you really need that on your player? Or can you just put around 200 on it and change those after some weeks?

You should also consider that if you buy your cd's, you must be a really rich bastard or a disk jockey to have over 2000 songs. If you download them (naughty boy, do not do that) then you will hardly ever find MP3s that are more than 3-5 MB because that slows down the downloads. People just keep an acceptable but not too high quality so it transfers rapidly.

So yeah, I'd say buy a very small (in size of the player) around 1-5 gig player that suits everywhere. Ipod's are a pain to cary: wouldn't u prefer something that is quite a bit smaller than a mobile phone? I do think so Wink that's always handy!

It will cost quite less too.

That's just my little input on this intresting topic.

There are people unlike you that do in fact have more than 20GB of music. Incognito, for example, has over 20GB of music as of what I've heard. Also, downloading music doesn't mean it's not very good quality, it's VERY easy to download CD quality music.

I don't say I don't have that amount of music, i say that i really can't see the use of having them all on your MP3-man...

I agree with DaveGMM. Gotzow tried to sound like he knew what he was talking about when he clearly didn't. AND ON THAT NOTE, I have some music that is 1GB in size (yes, drum and bass music compelations can be very very large, sometimes exceeding 1GB)

So I'm looking for huge ammounts of memory, maybe I'll even copy some games to it and play it while at school, thats why I'm looking for it to act as a flash drive as well.

Yeah I have about 3-4, but only 2 would be stuff i'd listen to. Some people figure their amount is the amount everyone else has...
My dad probably has almost 1000 albums on CD so If I copied all that onto the computer it'd be huge too.

I own an iPod nano and yes it does scratch EXTREMELY easily, but so do most iPods but the music quality and storage space produced for something so small is AMAZING! I bought some scratch remover offline specifically made for iPods and it cleaned it right up.
