As most of your know, Adad is the one who wrote a script to "claim" all of the allocated FDS serials. According to most claims I've heard, he has anywhere from 10,000 up to 50,000 serials.

This post serves as an open appeal from BHS on behalf of the entire Renegade community, to hand over at least 1000 serials to Blackhand Studios, so that we may redistribute them to the community.

If you, forum visitors, support our efforts in this appeal, please post in this thread your support.

Thanks for considering our plea.

I agree of course. Also note that due to Adads activities, people can no longer request FDS serials via the official method (there was a finite supply and he took them all).

If he would turn them over to BHS, we would put up a web application that would allow people to request and receive unique serials again.

Since he has literally thousands of them, I can think of no logical reason why he would not want to turn at least some of them over to us, hopefully he will do the right thing.

Why did he claim all of those serials? Just to be an ass or something?

I agree, i think he should hand atleast some over. I may not want or need to ever run a server, but that doesnt mean i dont think others shouldnt be allowed to.

What's to prevent someone from doing the same thing to your web app?

Quite simple really. Limit the number or Serials one person can obtain.

As they've proved before, BHS is a bit more competent in terms of security and monitoring than EA was. EA wouldn't *care* you see, first of all.

I support this.

They could add ones of those word verification things to the registration page that uses an image with a simple word or combination of letters, you have to actually see the word, and type it in, that should fool the automatic scripts.

You could also make them have to reply to an e-mail before they can get the code, and block certain e-mail urls that are only active once so that you can reply to a registration e-mail, etc.,

Why do you need FDS serials on a game that has more servers than players?

As the others have said, I am a bit more competent. I have several ideas of how to prevent that sort of thing, and I will cross that bridge when we get there.

The lack of FDS serials hasn't done a bit to stem the flow of morons running servers. I really hope you aren't honestly saying that it's right that someone has tens of thousands of serials that were intended for all of us to have access to.

I see quite a few morons in the FDS forum going "SERIALZ PLZ ZOMG1!," and it's nice not having them on WOL.

cause = time

Please don't take the thread off on this tangent. It's true that we don't need any more servers, but using a script to "steal" thousands of them is NOT the way to go about stopping that. Furthermore, there could be 100 servers listed on WOL and it wouldn't make much of a difference. We're all still going to play where we like to play.

I removed all the off topics posts. Please stay on topic, this is not the place to discuss if BHS "has proven themselves in the past". Thank you.

This thread is not to bash Adad. What's done is done, we are just asking him nicely if he would donate a bunch of the serials to us so that we can make a web page for people to request them, in order to restore the abilit that people had before he took them all. If he wants we can even put "thanks to Adad" on the page if he wants...our only interest is to restore the communities ability to get FDS serials again.

It's very simple. Instead of PM'ing someone on the forums and hoping he eventually gives you one, you can use an automated system to request one from an unbiased source.

So you are saying that the average person would more easily be able to find some random person (Adad) who had the FDS serials than if the link to the serial request page was posted on these forums and the renguard network MOTD and web site? That is unlikely.

Anyhow for all we know, Adad doesn't like random people coming to him all the time asking for serials...then again maybe he does...either way we just want to talk to him about it.

You obviously didn't read the entire post. We can also post this location on the RenGuard home page and MOTD, which reaches many others. Also, most community leaders read the posts here and they can, in turn, post the link in their own forums.
