What do you think is the best compression format to use. Like i need to fit a 800mb.exe file into a 700mb cd and i want to know if there is like some kind of uber compression format i dont know about. I tried .rar and got it to like 780mb. Thanks

The renegadetextures file on westwood's FTP is 55mb, yet the contents are about 150Mb! Try winzip with the best compression method available, or try compressing with a program called Zipzag.

Why not just use winrar to spit the file in to two. And have it on 2CDs?

You do know that you can use WinRAR to separate files so that they can fit on multiple disks, right? Or must you have it on a single disk?
edit: Enh, Walrus got it before I did.

Ok I'm a little rusty.
Instal winrar. Go to your file. Right click - add to archive. You will see a pull out saying - split to volume bytes - select out of it's list 600 mb cd.
And then add to archive as normal.
NOW TELL ME WHAT ANIME THAT CLIP IN YOUR SIG IS FROM-I can not place the name.
edit= remember when you need to unzip the files, copy both in to the same folder - then unzip.

you can also try something like 7-ZIP or WinRK they sould give you better compresstion then zip or rar.
take a look at this link it has benchmark test for lots of compressions
http://www.maximumcompression.com/benchmarks/Squeeze%20Chart%202005.pdf
I remember a long long time ago when i dl renegade(for a friend) the file was 140MB it was a winzip(exe) wich unziped in to like 30 winace archives and they unaced in to about 1/2 renegade and then there was also 1-2 other compressed files which had the sound... took a while to uncompress but when it was all done the 140MD compressed file became 800+MB of renegade...
PS winzip sux... I almost allways get better comprestion with normal winrar then with max comprestion of zip. And 7-ZIP or WinRK are even better.
PPS also if you try to compress a CD Image like a bin/que or img you won't get good compresion if you copy al the files out in ot a forlder and then compress it i found you get much better results

7zip gives you the best compression ratio for files. use the 7z format, LZMA compression, Ultra.

PhrozenUnit has the right idea. 7Zip is the way to go if you want it on one CD.
