Have you ever heard of internet lingo?

This is the internet, and "skin" is lingo. Get over it. Nobody agrees with you, and nobody will change no matter how much you whine about it.

Helps when you quote the entire thing.

Something you can touch has different meanings than something intangeble.
to something tangeble, texture is how it feels, while skin is the substance covering the object.

When it comes to the world of computer generated models. However when texture is applied to the computer world, it does have a distinct defininition, unlike skin.

 | Quote: | | texture

<graphics> A measure of the variation of the intensity of a
surface, quantifying properties such as smoothness, coarseness
and regularity. It's often used as a region descriptor in
 image analysis and computer vision.

Admittedly, Aircraftkiller doesn't always have to point out the correct terminology, but he is right. Whether you like him/hate him/whatever, he wins this round.

Though, the next time someone comes into the forum that doesn't speak proper English, or incomprehensable "leet speak", no one had better correct him, as then you'd all be hypocrites for getting after aircraftkiller for doing this to you.

 A. The internet isn't an english class.
 B. It doesn't matter who's correct. I know ACK is correct in saying that it isn't right to use the word "skin" how people use it, but thats totally irrelevant.

Before people start calling me a hypocrite...
Nobody agrees with him in the sense that "skin" is an unacceptable word...

	| You're right, the Internet isn't an English class.
But you know what it IS?

It's a place where the main means of communication is language, and here, it's the English language, and if you can't use it correctly, you're shit out of luck.

Let me relate to you a story, kiddos. Today in my English class, we were correcting people's papers that other people in our class had written. Do you know what I came across? That's right. Someone had written "u" instead of "you" in their paper. So I turned to him, and I said: "Robby, You might want to spell out the word 'you' in your sentences."
And do you have any idea what his response was?

"Oh, haha, I probably shouldn't chat on AIM when I do my homework."

It was just as I had predicted. Do not fool yourselves into thinking you can molest my language and that it's my job to try and insinuate a meaning out of your horrible solecisms.

 The moral?

 Don't be gay.

 A. The internet still uses English to communicate. Your job isn't an english class either, yet I dare you to use stuff like this in a business correspondance. (I wait for the day I see "U r" in a business letter)
 B. Just because something is acceptable by one person (or group) doesn't make it the correct thing to use. Heck, if this were true, you could call American's "Dogs" and claim it to be 'lingo' simply because a group uses it to describe them.

"skin", wheither is it acceptable or not, is hypocritical if you turn around and call "l337 5p3111|\|6" unacceptable, as it is "internet lingo", when "skin" is also of this form.

I'm not saying you, IRON, ARE a hypocrite. Unless, you are guilty of this.

	| If you want to call it a skin, just do it for Quake, Half-Life, UT and even Windows Media player. Each of those applications have official "skinning" guides...
If you want to do it for Renegade, you better just do what the almighty, self-proclaimed "God" of Renegade who finished one map for a dieing company and had them add it to one of their final patches does. (cause the good lord knows that if HE said it, it must be true)
