Recruit

I just installed Map Packs from Fan Maps.com and Unrules.com and also a sounds pack and Blazers(i think) Renegade Map Fast Loader.
It says that i have skins and i wont be able to join a pure server.
So whats wrong. I didnt download any skins..
Help Plz Some1 .

look in your renegade data folder for files that end with dds, those files are considered skins. Also don't worry about them there is usually no more then 2 servers that are running in pure mode anyways all the other server will let you play with skins..

Hi, I think I can clear up this misconception for you;

you see, renguard was made by people who considered texture files to be skins. apparently a bearskin or furry bag is similar to digital data on computers that make character models look like they are wearing clothes, garments or other coverings over their model face. they are called skins because models don't have any skin, therefore the texture you put onto them is their skin; they have nothing underneath. the stuff you downloaded probably included some of these bearskins, but you may take comfort in knowing all you have to do is examine your data folder inside your renegade folder and remove any files with a .dds or .tga extension after them, except "gamespy.tga" cuz' you need that for something.

LOL. Why are you worried about joining a pure server? Usually there arn't any pure servers up and if there are it's only like one server.

Skin files are the following extensions:
dds
w3d
tga

But don't worry man, pure servers ar'nt any different. And since on a pure server it scans your folder your loading time will increase.

That is incorrect. We know full well they are textures, but we also know that many, many people refer to textures as "skins". However incorrect this may be, we still need to effectively communicate with the people who don't know that the proper term is "texture". The exact error message is:

WARNING: Model Textures (Skins) have been detected on your client! You will not be able to join a pure server.

Note that "Skins" is in parethesis, which I would think makes it clear that we are indicating it is an alternate name, but apparently some people would rather assume we are idiots and make blanket statements about what we consider to be what. Wink
