he was looking for suggestions, all of mine boost frame rate, regardless of impact on visuals. So to retort:
[1] in fact does increase your fps, you said so yourself.
[2] screen res is always a factor
[3] windowed mode increases fps on slower systems. Fact.
[4] we are talking about a CPU intensive game. Texture replacements slow the game down because ren draws BOTH textures. Shoddy game engine.
[5] just because its obvious to you does not mean it is to the person that posted.
be careful before you tear through one of my posts regarding increasing fps for Ren,
I had a shit system for a long time and i tweaked it almost exclusively for Ren.

I had an even shittier system, I know all about this. Windowed mode, yet again, DOES NOT IMPROVE YOUR FPS, even with older systems. I used to play Renegade in windowed mode all the time, trust me. Texture replacements only noticeably slow the game down if your system has a crap CPU. And trust me, updating drivers is one of the first thing people ever try to fix problems.

ok. My only minor problem with that statement is that i got an extra 30 - 40 fps using windowed mode.
I always have vysnc set to off in my advanced options, so vsync should have been off for both full screen and windowed mode.
Where did the extra 30 - 40 fps come from?
Im not trying to be clever here im really interested to know what ive missed.

how do i open renegade into WINDOWED MODE? and turn off Vsync. i've tried doing seaches but came up with nothing.

WOW. from what you guys have helped me with i've gotten a lot better FPS out of my fossil. i now get an average of 12-14 FPS on a full 48 person server. thats the same as i was getting on a game with about 25 people on it. i'm in the 30s with a 24 player server now. what helped the most i think was i downloaded and updated driver for my grafics card. i also i turned down all the settings and got it into the smallest widow i could. THANKS A LOT TO ALL THAT HELPED!!!
