Let's say WOL was down, wouldn't we be able to just list the IP Addresses of the servers and use that Renegade IP program to direct connect to the server?

Not exactly... if WOL is down, the servers on WOL can't connect.

Are you sure? The unrules one works without WOL.
Just a thought, maybe one day we can set up an experiment if WOL just.. goes down... you know.

My point is, servers that are not on WOL, don't need WOL to connect to them, you can use GSA, ASE, etc... You don't need renip.
For servers that connect to WOL, you can't connect to them with anything when WOL goes down...

Thats not right at all, much of those Servers in WOL are WOLspy Servers and you can connect with them through GSA or RenIP or ASE. Partially you´re right, ASE maintains the same function as RenIP, but if I wanna play on a non-WOLspy Server and WOL IS DOWN LIKE NOW (02-09-2005, 23:20 European time), I must get IP & Port and have to use RenIP.
Anyways, I actually use ASE and hope WOL will be right back up soon....

Tell me something.. a server using WOLspy, what mode is it using to connect in the server.ini? WOL or GAMESPY mode?

Ahh... so a WOLSpy server is a WOL server that has a side application running to list it on Gamespy... Am I getting that right?
So, can someone please enlighten EA-DamageEverything as to how we're going to get a WOL server ON WOL when WOL is down? Do you think just maybe, when WOL is down, they change the server.ini file to make it a GAMESPY server until WOL comes back up?
Am I speaking in Latin? Or is this really that confusing.

Any GSA server that uses WOLspy or the WOLsyp emulation (is that what its called?) in BR, won't work as long as WOL is down. Only GSA servers will work.

WOL sucks!
Untill WOL goes to work, how else -CONCRETELY- is it possible to play renegade (with renguard, at best)?
And what are GSA and ASE?

GSA= GameSpy Arcade. Server browser that supports Renegade. Free to use $10/Year to subscribe.
ASE= All Seeing Eye. Another Server browser that shows Renegade servers on GameSpy.

GSA = game spy arcade @ http://www.gamespyarcade.com/download/
ASE = all seeing eye @ http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/
renegade has 2 server listings one is WOL the other is GSA, server owners chose that server to get listed on. And then you would use WOL or gsa to find the server you like. With ASE you can see the servers from gsa not sure if it finds wol servers as well.
