I know this is the wrong forum but i've seriously looked everywhere and can't find a solution to this problem.
Basically, the game will load the valve guy at the start, then the text, but when it comes to the bit with the background, which I think will load the menu, the game crashes to the desktop after trying to load it. Same thing happens with cs:source. a few people have said they have the same problem, some with black screen flickering first and I think one person said they had a memory access error..but there hasn't been a solution. maybe one of you have solved the problem on your own?
also, I have checked the sierra technical support + valve tech support sites, all no deal.

better than min requirements
latest drivers etc etc

are you using intergreted video? the same problem is happening to me. run the game with -console and see if it pops upp any errror messages. also check the winders error logger. although the place for this is the steam forums.
