I think it's used for some single player stuff.

If you don't use the Data Disc while playing the single player missions, you don't get any of the animated cut scenes between missions.

If only they named one disk 'Install Disk' and the other 'Play Disk'.

The game disc is ONLY for installing.


That was it's only intended purpose... but it can be used to start the game also. You just won't get any movies/cutscenes.

Who plays single player anyway, and why would you see the movies? It's a lot of time saving by playing with the install disk.

DISC1 = Game Installer

DISC 2 - Game Player

In fact the only thing disc 2 is used for is the movies (*.bik)
So all you have to do to get around the Please insert Data CD after you've launched renegade and/or in single player missions is to make a new folder in the data directory on the local disk called 'movies' and copy all the BIK files from the renegade CD.
Nice way to cheat the system Razz

And edit the config "Show Intro=no" or whatever...
