Hi Guys,
Its about time i joined up here for a chat, discussion and for me to generally submit pleas of help.
Last Winter we had 2 working copies on Renegade, we enjoyed playing online me and the other half that is. Then one day one of the cd's shattered in the computer!!!
We were lucky enough to get another one out of the shops before they all ran out - not a very easy game to find over here in N Ireland at the moment. Anyway today i've discovered the one i've been using has cracked from the inner of the cd
So now i'm down to one cd - no more family entertainment until i spy another cd somewhere - anyway... I've seen talk mentioned of a non cd patch if it exists will someone please point me in the right direction for it.
Also while i'm here, the new maps, i've downloaded them last night, installed them and got them working ok, I take it you can't use a server that doesn't run them - stands to reason i guess, but later on i couldn't get renegade to run at all, I'm not saying it was this installation I think some bastard has hacked in via a pop up but we've had serious problems getting anything to work and i had to reinstall renegade 3 times today the cracked red cd was the last straw!!
Please tell me there is nothing wrong with the maps and i can insert them again when ive got this pc playing fair again.

ive had this work for me before when i couldnt find my disc's
insert disc one and let auto run start..
hit play..
and when it tells you insert the data disc.. just hit cancel..
it should bring you to the menu..
not sure if its just a wierd bug on my comp or if it will work for every one lol
if u have a DVD burner..
go to http://www.download.com and search for an app called alcohol 120%
download the free version cause it will never go bad on you and u can keep it for good..
and this lets u back up all games..
you can back up the data disc and never need to put in the disc again..
not sure what the no-cd crack other ppl use is
but i use this app to back up all games i need to use a disc to play
(edit)
that or try amazon.com.. the games goin for like 4$ usd..

First thanks for the tips, i've not formatted yet so i'm still around for now. I'll certainly make good use of the information here and if only I knew about it before the second one shattered, I don't think we can use the same disk online at the same time, let me know if i'm wrong.
As for us taking care of cd's, when the first one shattered and found out how obsolete Renegade was getting I've handled the discs with kid gloves. So its definaltey nothing to do with the owners of the discs its obvious its the quality, maybe the us versions are better.
Oblivion - you are just right not to divulge anything to anyone unknown, my personal history is as follows,
Only got into Renegade a little before xmas last year, really enjoyed it as a "Noob" but since then shit happens, my partners father died and i had a stressful summer, online gaming fell to the wayside and in terms of hours played i'm probably still classed a "noob" but I don't care, i love the game, I can kick ass when i want to. I'm maybe a crap shot but then again i'm 38 and a mother of 2 studying for a university degree so i'm usually v knackered and have turned to renegade for some lite relief.
So when someone calls me a noob and then my rating at the end of the game is far higher than theirs is, why should I care? I don't, i'm there to enjoy playing away and i don't take it so personal as some of the youngsters out there do.
That said, Iso's are something my fella knows that much more about and because of the problems with downloadable games with multiplayer passwords we don't really bother, we pay's the money and enjoy the game.
Doesn't stop him trialing a game though

maybe so, my three sets arent even in their cases. They are sitting on the table next to a 50 gallon fish tank. (that means it will get all kinds of crap on it.)
