SuperFlyingEngi

A GeForce 4 is not a great video card any more....

The game looks fine, and nothing pops up in front of me with my 9800 Pro and 512 Mb of RAM.

its still decent, and a gig stick....there isnt any commercial or domestic program my comp cant handle. I do mean Unix and etc aswell.

Except for Half-Life 2, apparently. After all, GeForce 4s don't have hardware support for DirectX 9.0, so that's probably where the problem's coming from.

I have a Geforce FX that's set on DirectX 8.1, Half-Life 2 looks the best and runs like a champ. DirectX 9.0 isn't that much different, in my opinion.

Actually, there's quit alot of difference. I don't remember where... but I saw a screenshot that tested every DirectX. Some where transparency and fires looked like crap... another where everything looks fine (DirectX 9.0c).

I tested it myself, I agree it looks better, but not by much in my opinion. I don't want 20 fps, I want 40+.

Yeah, that NEVER happens to me. It's your computer/settings.

Has nothing to do with Half-Life 2's engine.

If Half-Life2 is messing up, its not the game engine. I have had the same problem. Do an anti virus scan on te disc or your hard drive it is already installed. I found the Trojan Horse on mine. If my estimate is correct, then you will have some nasy little virus in your hard drive as well. Norton Anti-Virus, if you have it, then it should contain the virus rather quickly. I don't trust any other virus protector.

Geforce 4 is inaccurate. There are many kinds of Geforce 4's out there.

Geforce 4 MX 400

Geforce 4 MX 420

Geforce 4 MX 440 64mb

Geforce 4 MX 440 128mb

Geforce 4 Ti 4200

Geforce 4 Ti 4400

Geforce 4 Ti 4600

Geforce 4 Ti 4800

Anything else I'm missing?

So yeah, they all are way different from each other.

Well, no fucking duh Half-Life 2 is going to do that shit, you have a $30 card that's been out-dated for years. Don't expect a highly advanced game engine to run the best and look the best on a very out-dated card.

Meaning it's $30. Even $50 is very low.

Those cheap ones are old too. The $150 - $200 ones are the ones that can handle Half-Life 2 to run like it should. You're way behind.

You need a new fucking graphics card to run Half-Life 2 to the best of its abilities.

whoa.

i agree, i bought the card way back when galaxies came out. but as for the requirements for hl2 im well set:

--Required
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
1.2 Ghz processor
256 MB of RAM
DirectX 7 compatible graphics card
--Recommended
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
2.4 Ghz processor
512 MB of RAM
DirectX 9 enabled graphics card
Internet Access

may not be the best, but will handle it easily.

Oblivion, stop being so damn oblivious to the fact that JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN RUN IT DOESN'T MEAN IT WILL RUN PERFECTLY. Ever wonder why the recommended settings are different from the minimum requirements? Maybe because the Recommended means it will play to the best of its capabilities, and minimum requirements just means that it can play it without any MAJOR problems.

whoa.
