You guys aren't listenning. I'm trying to warn you oblivion, Valve made a warez version as a trap and experiment. They even announced it. People who use it will be banned from Steam eventually and will not be able to register on Steam again, meaning you won't be able to play Half-Life 2 again, even if you bought it.

Valve is running a fake warez version of Half-Life 2. If you download it you'll never be able to play it even if you bought it.

Okay, sure...

Unless of course you know how to backup your registry before install.. or at worst, reinstall your OS..

Either way, he's a fucking idiot for just downloading it with the intent of keeping it and not using it just as a trial. I don't see how he can say it's a big let down. The game is awesome. Plus, there's more to it than just the SP...hence why they have CS:S.

whoa.

Jesus Christ you guys are all flipping out and OMG VALVES WAREZ VERSION U RE TEH SCRWWED!!!!! You don't have to download a warez version. I know a large group of people who all chipped in a little bit to purchase a single instance of HL2. They all logged on and downloaded HL2. Steam doesn't care how many people play the Single player. If 500,000 people coordinated and all wanted to play hl2. They could buy gold, They would have to pay a 180th of a cent. To ALL play. Now if anyone wants to play the Multiplayer they can't do that, Which I would assume Oblivion does seeing as he wants to mod it. I just wanted to point out that while Valve thinks they're so smart, and you all praise them, they left a huge ass whole... lol

Too bad that won't do shit, since you have to log into Steam to run the game.

Also, Doitle, what you said about many people sharing has a flaw. You can share it, but you can't play it more than once at a time with one account. I don't get why people think you can avoid logging onto Steam or that Single Player does not require Steam. You DO have to log in for both Multiplayer and Single Player... Get it right damnit.

Actually, no, you only need to unlock your game once with that steam program and it's history.

of course you need it for multiplayer: the server listings and game joining/hosting is through steam!

lol Icedog like I said. Steam doesn't care if 500,000 people log in with the same name. As long as they don't all play CS:S It doesn't care. Like I said I know alot of people sharing one HL2 instance. They all can login to Steam with their joint account and play HL2.

You are correct, log in once for SP and then you don't need to again

Valve didn't release any kind of warez version. They just tracked who was downloading the crack that was already out, and then banned all 20,000 of their accounts.

Flyingfox, wtf are you talking about? I have to log in to play Half-Life 2 every time, it doesn't let me play without logging in. If you have proof, then show me.

And Doitle, trust me, Steam isn't stupid enough to not let any account be duplicated.

Duh, I keep hearing that, but I want to know how. WHENEVER I launch Half-Life 2 it ALWAYS logs in.

You don't get it. You log in. Steam doesn't care if two or 500,000 people are logged in at the steam My Games screen. Only when you attempt to play CS:S does it flag you. Like I said these people all just log in and play HL2 with impunity. That's the big flaw of steam's I'm talking about. Icedog go test it, give your username and password to a friend and have them log in, then you log in. Surprise surprise, nothing happens. Just don't both play CS:S at the same time.

You need to lower down a bit and stop jumping to conclusions so easily. Of course I understand what you're talking about, why wouldn't I? You need to slow down a bit and realize that I said I wanted proof about this, but you keep going on and on about how I'm wrong and it does work. Just chill, ok? Since you failed to provide evidence, I went and did it myself and it worked. There, happy?

I told you where to get evidence. I can't show it any other way. I hope you don't expect me to fly to your house with two computers and show you that I'm logging in at the same time? Obviously you didn't understand what I was talking about when you said:

Yes, you DO log in. You just don't play CS:S. You log in, your buddy logs in, EVERYBODY logs in. Even with the same SN, Steam doesn't care. You log in, click HL2 icon and you go.

Evidence for me would mean you doing it yourself. I trust you enough that I know you wouldn't lie to me.

I thought that one quote was directed at me. I retract the statement about that.

I give my word that it works though... You know? That's just the thing, I've seen it done. I've been there when they did it. Not like "This D\/de on teh aim telld me dat j000 canm log en 2 tymes." But Actually seeing it done. I was skeptical too but like I say, There are several people I know and have watched them, log on and all play HL2 in one account. They ask each other if anyones playing CS:S before they go on so they can all play that without raising suspicions.

Well, while we're on the subject, are you sure Valve doesn't care if I were to use that to let my dad play or to play a LAN with my sister? I don't want to risk getting myself banned for good...

I don't know about even LANing CS:S... If your dad wanted to play HL2 while you were it would work but, CS:S is the part that Valve does care about. I am not sure in that instance.
